Last year, we put together a feature we titled “Artist August,” an effort specifically designed to highlight some of our favorite artists in the industry. We realized that, as a site and even as an industry, we’ve become overly centered on writers. Sure, we love artists and all they bring to the table, but for some reason, we often give them less attention when it comes to reviews, features and press overall.
We liked it so much, and you all liked it so much, that we decided to go for a second round of this endeavor, as Artist August 2.0 starts today. Every week day will feature an interview with a different artist along with an art feature and in some cases an extra or two.
Come back soon for interviews with luminaries from around the industry like Sean Gordon Murphy, R.M. Guera, and the entire art team from Image’s “Prophet,” as well as many, many others.
Oddly enough, though, it doesn’t begin with an artist at all, but Image Comics publisher Eric Stephenson. Sure, it’s cheating, but Stephenson is the man guiding one of our favorite houses of comic art, so it seemed to make a certain amount of sense. We’ll also be bringing together an art feature for the artist of Stephenson’s upcoming project “Nowhere Men,” Nate Bellegarde. The guy is a huge talent, and is someone to watch for in coming months.
Welcome to “Artist August.” We hope you enjoy the experience.
