Multiversity’s Super Hanukkah Special: Night #7

Here at Multiversity, we like to celebrate our Jewishness from time to time. Let’s face it – we don’t get to do it very often! But when we do, we might as well go all out, right? So for the Eight Nights of Hanukkah, we are going to present to you a Jewish super hero or villain that we greatly appreciate here at Multiversity Comics.

For the seventh night, we’ve picked: Kitty Pryde!

Kitty Pryde has been without a doubt one of the most influential younger X-Men since eher first appearance 30 years ago. She’s one of the few characters that Wolverine has ever truly called friend, and she’s been influential in several Marvel
organizations, including SHIELD and Excalibur/MI-13 (with Pete Wisdom). She’s also romantically linked to everyone’s favorite Russian hunk, Colossus. Kitty Pryde is one of the few characters that Emma Frost confides in as well, as seen in Astonishing X-Men and the most recent X-Men stories by Matt Fraction.

Of course, what Kitty is most recently known for is her extreme selflessness in saving our planet from a giant space bullet. Trapped inside, she phased the bullet through our planet and rode the bullet off into the stars, only recently being pulled back my Magneto (which he did as a showing of good faith towards the Cyclop’s Nation X/agenda). Poor Kitty – she saved our planet, and now she’s stuck in a bubble. On the plus side, she’s hanging with Emma Frost and Fantomex, two of my favorite X-Men, so I guess I can’t feel TOO bad for her!

So this Hanukkah, light your menorah in honor of one of the most Jewish characters in comics – so Jewish that she is the only Marvel Hero that wears a star of David around her neck. She even used it to ward off Dracula at one point. For her continued adventures, check out the pages of Uncanny X-Men by Matt Fraction and Kieron Gillen, or check out old issues of Excalibur (particularly by Warren Ellis, with the Pryde/Wisdom mini) or Astonishing X-Men by Joss Whedon.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
