Robbie Pleasant has written over 500 articles for Multiversity, and has been on our de facto Marvel experts, both on the screen and in the comics.
March 23, 2016, I posted my first review: Five Thoughts on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s “Parting Shot.” I had just been invited to join the Multiversity team by my friend Ken, and was excited to contribute.
What a ride it’s been since then.
Slightly over eight years later, and I’ve reviewed some of the best and worst TV shows from Marvel (with Helstrom way down at the bottom of the list and Loki season 1 at the top), shared my thoughts on more comics than I care to count, interviewed some of my favorite comic book writers, and even reviewed the first half of the MCU in haiku form. It’s been an amazing experience, to say the least.
Writing for Multiversity has changed the way I think about comics and TV shows for the better. I’ve found joy in examining the various thematic and visual elements of comics and sharing what stands out. I’ve learned to recognize those little touches that can make comics all the better, down to the quality of the lettering. I’ve had artists and writers thank me for my reviews, even when I criticize them. Heck, I’ve had my reviews quoted on the back covers of no fewer than nine trade paperbacks, including comics by Jim Zub and Kieron Gillen, two writers whose work I love. (I’ll never forget how exciting it was to look on the back of “Rat Queens” volume 4 and see my name and review quote printed there.)
Most importantly, I’ve been part of this amazing community of comic fans and reviewers, a place where I can nerd out and share my overly-long thoughts (and actually have people take my opinions seriously – crazy, right?). Writing for Multiversity Comics has been a true pleasure, and I’ll treasure the time I was a part of this site.
What comes next? I’m not sure. I’m still a writer for G33k-HQ, so I’ll see about continuing some comic reviews there, but it’s not a dedicated review site, so I’d like to find another comic book site to contribute to. But I hope that this isn’t the last I’ll see of my colleagues at Multiversity, and that this won’t be the last any of you hear from me.
So to everyone here at Multiversity, to Brian and all the editors, to my fellow writers whose work I enjoy reading week after week, and to all the readers out there who enjoyed my reviews: thank you. Thank you so much for letting me be a part of this corner of the comic book world.
See you, space cowboy.
