Saturday Morning Panels (Week of 7/3/2013)

Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels, your new favorite Multiversity column! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.

And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.

We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks –

Matthew’s Pick: “Catalyst Comix” #1

By far and hands down the most exciting book out this week, specifically because of all the crazy awesome shit the artists of this book put together. It was outlandish, chaotic, creative, exciting and visually stunning to see a book like this put together and delivered in such a smart, sexy package. Joe Casey, Dan McDaid, Ulises Farinas and Paul Maybury all deserve some kind of special honorary award for this.

The David On This Site Who Lives In The Snowy North’s Pick: “Superior Foes of Spider-Man” #1

Say what you will about Nick Spencer and how he writes Morning Glories, but there is one thing you cannot question: he knows how impenetrable people think it is. This little panel from his just debuted Marvel title finds the new Beetle robbing a comic shop and responding in disgust to the comic she is handed, saying the above line in response. You know it. I know it. Nick knows it. She is talking about Morning Glories.

Too funny.

Note: it’s entirely possible Beetle is referring to comics in general, but I choose to think she’s talking about a copy of Morning Glories she is looking at.

James’ Pick: Also “Superior Foes of Spider-Man” #1

I know this is two panels, but Shocker’s “Dude…”, like a lot of things in Superior Spider-Foes, is fantastic.

Walter’s Pick: “Batman Incorporated” #12

There are lots of profound things one could say about this latest “Batman Incorporated.” Children suffering for the sins of their parents, being used to fight others’ battles, and so on and so forth. In fact, I’m sure there are probably quite a few really good blog posts floating around about just that right now. I, on the other hand, and going to opt for OH MY GOD IT’S DR. HURT’S MASK AND CAPE OH CHRIST EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED WHY IS THIS RUN SO AWESOME?

The David On This Site Who Is Unfortunately Not A Highlander’s Pick: Also “Batman Incorporated” #12

Not pictured: me yelling “Because he’s freakin’ BATMAN” at the top of my lungs.

Vince’s Pick: “Green Arrow” #22

Count Vertigo does a little mind-taking and Andrea Sorrentino stretches those beautifully eccentric artistic muscles. What the “Green Arrow” title is today is miles ahead of what his watered-down ‘New 52’ beginnings had suggested – and it took almost no time at all.

Michelle’s Pick: “Ten Grand” #3

There are about a dozen panels like this in “Ten Grand” #3, and they’re all equally bananas. Nobody draws unimaginable evil quite like Ben Templesmith.
