Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.
And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.
We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks:
“Adventure Time” #32: I’m not exactly sure what else you would expect in an armory. – Matthew Garcia
“Alex + Ada” #9:OH. I SEE HOW IT’S GOING TO BE, LUNA AND VAUGHN. I SEE. This is how you want to play it? So messed up. SO. MESSED. UP. – David Harper
“Brides of Helheim” #1: Someday I’ll pony up the dough for some original Joëlle Jones “Helheim” art. I’m not sure why, but it speaks to me. – Vince Ostrowski
“Bucky Barnes: The Winter Soldier” #1: I saw the comments section of our Multiversity Comics review for this book. Shit-talking Marco Rudy? Bullshit. I won’t stand for it. Haters gonna hate. – Vince Ostrowski; Hates gonna hate! – Matthew Meylikhov
“Captain America” #25: Holy shit. I can’t remember the last time something fun, this funny, this heartwarming this in superhero comics. Everyone is getting along as a team. Avengers Assemble! – Matthew Meylikhov
“Captain America” #25: I love, love, love Rick Remender books, but there are times when he couldn’t be less subtle. – Vince Ostrowski
“Captain America” #25: And sometimes it’s a great thing that he’s not always subtle. – Vince Ostrowski
“Critical Hit” #1: Cool people don’t look at explosions. – Leo Johnson
“Detective Comics” #35: John Paul Leon’s covers for The Massive have been a sight to behold every month. Seeing him on interiors for Detective makes me pine for his art to grace a Bat-book. And those Dave Stewart colors aren’t too shabby either. – Keith Dooley
“The Fade Out” #2: This is incredible. – Matthew Meylikhov
“The Fade Out” #2: The truth about Hollywood has remained the same now as it did in 1948. – Keith Dooley
“God Hates Astronauts” #2: Only in God Hates Astronauts and the twisted mind of Ryan Browne does this make complete and total sense. – Leo Johnson
“God Hates Astronauts” #2: THIS BOOK IS FOR EVERYONE. – Matthew Meylikhov
“Gotham Academy” #1: This image was seriously the one that convinced me this series would be something to seek out. The perfect design work, the ornate decorations, and elaborate set up reminded me of Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel and Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. And even though I didn’t like the rest of the book as much as I liked this one image, I’m still convinced there’s great things to be expected from this title. – Matthew Garcia
“Gotham Academy” #1: This comic is sooooo goood you guys. So good. – David Harper
“Gotham Academy” #1: This book brought to mind the peripheral aspects of the DCAU, including handsome-as-fuck tsundere Bruce Wayne. – Vince Ostrowski
“Gotham Academy” #1: Nothing impresses Olive Silverlock. Not even Batman. But this first issue impressed me beyond my high expectations. Bravo, Brenden Fletcher, Becky Cloonan, and Karl Kerschl for creating characters and a world that already feels alive in the first issue. – Keith Dooley
“Grayson” #3: This is a hot, hot comic. I couldn’t read the ending because I was crying too much. I give it three hot, wet kisses. This is Vince J. Ostrowski saying, “Good day.” – Vince Ostrowski
“Green Lantern: New Gods – Godhead” #1: I got bored of the constant Lantern crossovers about three crossovers ago. I’m back on board for “Godhead” – it’s tremendously fun and sports some great art, including this quadruple pager. – Vince Ostrowski
Continued below“Guardians 3000” #1: Fuck yeah, classic Guardians. – Matthew Meylikhov
“Li’l Depressed Boy: Supposed to Be There, Too” #1: Welcome back, LDB. You were missed. – Matthew Meylikhov
“Men of Wrath” #1: Jesus Christ, Aaron and Garney. How do you sleep at night? – Matthew Meylikhov
“Morning Glories” #41: Who’s the Morning Glories Academy student with the wristband and later sneering at other students? Me, that’s who. – Leo Johnson
“Rat Queens” #8: And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we love “Rat Queens.” – Matthew Meylikhov
“Swamp Thing” #35: I know what I want! Super Swamp Thing! – Keith Dooley
“Thor” #1: Russel Dauterman, why haven’t you been drawing “Thor” all my life? Matthew Wilson, why aren’t you coloring all the books? – Matthew Meylikhov
“Uncanny Avengers” #25: Meanwhile, on the complete opposite spectrum of the type of book that Rick Remender writes… – Matthew Meylikhov
“Wonder Woman” #34: Wonder Woman can’t help being herself. And we’re all the better for it. – Keith Dooley
“Wonder Woman” #34: Only gods and goddesses could come up with something as awesome as mechanical elephant war machines! – Keith Dooley
