Saturday Morning Panels (Week of 10/29/14)

Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.

And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.

We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks:

“Adventure Time” #33: I never thought having Jake and Marceline fuse into a shapeshifting master monster was ever something I ever thought of seeing. But oh my glob it’s better than I could have ever hoped. – Matt Garcia

“Batman Eternal” #30: Batman says: “Fuck the police.” – Vince Ostrowski

“Earth 2: World’s End” #4: A black Superman eating kale? This is truly Rush Limbaugh’s worst nightmare. – Vince Ostrowski

“Guardians of the Galaxy” #20: Why can’t every arc of this book be as wonderful and cosmic as this arc has been? – Matthew Meylikhov

“Little Nemo: Return to Slumberland” #2: Look everybody, a perfect new trollface for your reaction face folder. – Vince Ostrowski

“Marvel 75th Anniversary Celebration”: I wish. – Matthew Meylikhov

“MIND MGMT” #27: Strangely enough, I just rewatched The Devil’s Backbone, where there was a scene very similar to this one. In any case, Kindt’s really hitting the primal and brutal elements of the MGMT in these flashbacks, isn’t he? – Matt Garcia

“Rachel Rising” #29: Every issue of “Rachel Rising” is amazing and I don’t have faith in anyone not reading this book. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Rasputin” #1: I got to see this book early, and I kept telling people it was awesome and worth buying because it was a mostly silent issue of a dude fighting a bear. I wasn’t kidding. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Saga” #24: It can get so confusing. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Saga” #24: Oh Lying Cat, how we’ve all missed you for this arc. – Matt Garcia; I don’t know what’s creepier: Lying Cat or Roald Dahl’s “The Witches”-looking creature. – Keith Dooley

“Saga” #24: That awesome Bat-looking symbol on Marko’s shield reminds me of the Mask of Tengu that Bruce Wayne wore during KnightsEnd. – Keith Dooley

“Southern Bastards” #5: Welcome back, “Southern Bastards”. You were sorely missed during your brief absence. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Southern Bastards” #5: Coach Boss sure is a heartless bastard. – Keith Dooley

“Swamp Thing Annual” #3: Thanks to Charles Soule and Ryan Browne, I’ll never think of popcorn the same way again. – Keith Dooley

“Swamp Thing Annual” #3: Swamp Thing art by Yanick Paquette? Yes, please. Even if it’s only for one gorgeous and heartbreaking two-page splash. I’m really going to miss Charles Soule. – Keith Dooley

“Tuki” #2: Nope. Nopenopenopenopenopenopenope. – Matt Garcia

“Wonder Woman” #35: The bracelets are off and Diana is taking no prisoners. Boy am I going to miss Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang. – Keith Dooley; Oh snap, punk. Wonder Woman’s got you in her sights now. – Matt Garcia; What they said. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Wonder Woman” #35: Wonder Woman’s philosophy in just a few panels! – Keith Dooley

“Wonder Woman” #35: You know, I sort of love that the best comic any of the superhero companies have been putting out over the last three years; the book that so successfully delivered emotion and action and spectacle so consistently; the book that’s not only the best Wonder Woman run I’ve yet to come across, but also the best thing I’ve seen from either Brian Azzarello or Cliff Chiang (and let’s not forget Tony Akins or Goran Sudzuka); ends on a stupid pun. Family, love, and compassion, and humor — a great summary of the whole story right here on this last page. – Matt Garcia
