Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.
And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.
We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks:
“Batgirl” #35: This amazing scene demonstrates why Barbara is an asset in the war on crime. The new “Batgirl” team know how to create a fun book that’s also intelligent. – Keith Dooley
“Batgirl” #35: Honestly, I thought this issue was a little #forced, but this? I liked this. – Matthew Meylikhov
“Batman” #35: See! Batman does laugh! AND he has a sense of humor. – Keith Dooley
“Batman” #35: Last week was Super-Swamp Thing in “Swamp Thing”. This week it’s Super-Joker in “Batman”. Snyder and Capullo continue to to put out the best monthly title out there. – Keith Dooley
“Batman” #35: It’s nice to see the great Kelley Jones back where he belongs: bringing a little horror into the Bat-world. – Keith Dooley
“Batman” #35: BOOM! – Matthew Garcia
“Batman Eternal” #27: Stephanie Brown is back, and although she probably won’t be Batgirl again anytime soon, it feels like a big missing piece is finally back. – Vince Ostrowski
“Birthright” #1: Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck me, now that’s a fantasy landscape. Yes. Yes. – Matthew Meylikhov
“Black Market” #4: Barbiere and Santos wrapped things up in a bit of an unexpected way. I could use more of that in comics. – Leo Johnson
“Black Widow” #11: Are those antimanium nails, or are you planning to kill me? Thanks Noto and Edmondson for proving that not all crossover action/saving the day has to be left to Natasha’s boyfriends (though they do try). Black Widow #11–a femme fatale favorite. – Cassandra Clarke
“Captain Marvel” #8: As an owner of four flerken myself, I can confirm that this is pretty much what life is like 24/7. – Matthew Meylikhov
“Copperhead” #2: I was on the fence about Copperhead. I think Ishmael and his badassitude just sold me on the series. – Leo Johnson
“Earth 2” #27: The coloring by Peter Pantazis in this issue is very pretty. The colors pop superheroically off the page. – Keith Dooley
“Rocket Raccoon” #4: HOW WAS THIS NOT IN THE MOVIE? This is canon now; if it’s not in Guardians 2 I’m gonna flip. – Matthew Meylikhov
“Rocket Raccoon” #4: The Rat Queens invade Rocket Raccoon. This issue was so full of twists and ridiculousness that I already wish next month’s chapter was here. – Matthew Garcia
“Sabrina” #1: Wow. I was not expecting “Sabrina” to be such a great book. Not only was the writing top-notch (by “Afterlife with Archie” writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa), but the art by Robert Hack was jaw-droppingly stunning. This guy deserves all the recognition and accolades in the world. – Keith Dooley
“Sabrina” #1: Zelda, you’re wrong. Dogs are much smarter than cats. Look what happened to the poor sap who was punished for attempting to bring divine vengeance upon the world. He was turned into a cat. – Keith Dooley
“Sabrina” #1: Aaaaaaand I can’t sleep now. – Vince Ostrowski
“Sabrina” #1: In all seriousness, I think “Sabrina” was my favorite new book out this week. The “Rosemary’s Baby” nod, the scratchy inks, the warm and eerie watercolors. – Matthew Garcia
“Sabrina” #1: And Robert Hack sells the slow zoom-in horror reveal. – Matthew Garcia
“Sex Criminals” #8: Oh, those boys. – Matthew Meylikhov
“Teen Dog” #2: Can I use a whole page? Because Teen Dog is the most amazing and fun comic I’ve read in a while. Mostly because there are great moments like this every few pages. – Leo Johnson
Continued below“Wytches” #1: That’s gotta hurt. It doesn’t pay to be a bully. – Keith Dooley
“Wytches” #1: That’s a mighty fine splash page. This is one example of why “Wytches” is my favorite debut of the year so far. Scott Snyder, Jock, Matt Hollingsworth, and Clem Robbins conjure up wicked brilliance. – Keith Dooley
“Wytches” #1: I have a feeling that “Pledged is pledged” is a phrase that’s going to catch on. – Keith Dooley
“Wytches” #1: Hazing like this is exactly why I avoided joining up with any college fraternities. – Matthew Meylikhov
