Saturday Morning Panels (Week of 12/17/14)

Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.

And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.

As a note, this week features some content that is not safe for work. Please keep that in mind when reading, and don’t get in trouble with your boss if you read this column Monday mornings.

We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks:

“Alex + Ada” #11: I know they’re fictional characters, BUT IF YOU TOUCH ONE HAIR ON
ADA’S HEAD YOU GONNA DIE JACOB. *ahem* I like this comic. – David Harper

“Batman” #37: I have nothing else to say other than, nice work, Capullo. – Matthew Garcia

“Batman” #37: This one of many panels in this book that gave me chills. Gordon realizes something truly terrifying in this moment! – Keith Dooley

“Batman” #37: This funhouse of horrors is a showcase for FCO Plascencia. – Keith Dooley

“Batman and Robin” #37: He’s back. Let the tears commence. – Keith Dooley

“BPRD Hell on Earth” #126: This is one hell of a splash. My goodness, James Harren and Dave Stewart, people. So good. – David Harper

“Captain Marvel” #10: Lieutenant Trouble is officially my new favorite Marvel character. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Drifter” #2: Nic Klein’s just off the charts amazing in this book, but this sound effect is the hottest of the hot shit. – David Harper

“Drifter” #2: I live in Alaska. I’ve seen bears before. You sir, you are not a bear. – David Harper

“Drifter” #2: Look Mom, I’m in a comic book! #Humblebrag – David Harper

“Elektra” #9: So this is loveMatthew Garcia

“Ms. Marvel” #10: Real talk time. – Matthew Garcia

The Multiversity: Thunderworld: I love this fun use of lettering by Steve Wands! – Keith Dooley

“The Multiversity: Thunderworld”: Paging Doctor Evil! – Keith Dooley

“The Multiversity: Thunderworld”: This is such a simple, yet spectacularly fun, use of perspective in a book that is chock full of imagination and joy. – Keith Dooley

“The Multiversity: Thunderworld”: Ohhhhh crap. Can any of you summon Godzilla? – Matthew Garcia

“Oddly Normal” #4: Let’s look beyond the trope enough to applaud this lunch lady for being able to handle about four different orders simultaneously, while still being able to throw her old lady shade. – Matthew Garcia

“Rumble” #1: One of the many great examples of the humor in this book. Arcudi’s totally on point here. – David Harper

“Rumble” #1: Yet another example of humor from Rumble, but this time, how well does James Harren sell that? So good. – David Harper

“Sandman Overture” #4: Oh. This is why it takes this book about four months to come out. – Matthew Garcia

“Spider-Verse Team-Up” #2: This was an actual thing that happened in a Marvel comic this week. – Matthew Meylikhov

“The Wicked + the Divine” #6: When my hair looks right and I have that new ensemble on and it crushes, this is exactly how I feel and wished I looked. Why can’t I be a Jamie McKelvie drawing? – David Harper

“The Wicked + the Divine” #6: Yo Prismo, where’s the hot tub? – Matthew Garcia

“The Wicked + the Divine” #6: GPOY. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Wytches” #3: Now that’s creepy. Jock’s stunning art and Matt Hollingsworth’s superb coloring make for an unearthly and gruesome scene. – Keith Dooley

“Zero” #13: In a year of comics that have really upped their game with the translation of time across the page in a static sequential medium, “Zero” sneaks in just at the end with its own great entry. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Zero” #13: He just killed that other guy by punching his face in. BY PUNCHING HIS FACE IN. – Matthew Garcia
