Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels, your new favorite Multiversity column! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.
And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.
We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks:
Matthew’s Pick: “Thunderbolts” #21
See, it’s funny because Charles Soule is a lawyer, and I bet the idea of making a literal deal with the devil is something he has probably wanted to work into his books for a while now probably. And it totally worked! Nailed it, Charles.
Vince’s Pick: “East of West” #9
Nick Dragotta hit every impactful note he needed to hit with his depiction of the Oracle stealing the eyes of Death: grim detail, disgustingly deliberate pacing, and sheer terror. A terrific specimen of fantastical body horror. And completely unexpected, to boot.
James’ Pick: “Thor, God of Thunder” #18
Whenever I stumble home wasted and lay down in my own filth, at least I can feel comfortable knowing I’m no different than the God of Thunder.
David Henderson’s Pick: “Theremin” #4
I see what you did there, Curt Pires, you sly son of a bitch. And it was clever.
Michelle’s Pick: “Furious” #1
The Beacon (AKA Furious) is a superhero with a bad rep. Watching her try to find a problem to solve — and come across kind of unhinged in the process — is surprisingly fun reading.
David Harper’s Pick: “Saga” #18
Izabel and Lying Cat are two of the biggest breakout characters from Saga, so when those two squared off, I’m sure a lot of readers squeeeed! in delight. But then Izabel brought the motherfuckin’ ruckus, turning into LC’s mama and scaring the shit out of readers and Lying Cat in the process. It was an intense moment, and shows exactly how far Izabel is willing to go to protect who crew. Brilliant moment from BKV and Fiona, as per usual.
