Saturday Morning Panels (Week of 2/5/14)

Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels, your new favorite Multiversity column! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.

And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.

We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks:

Matthew’s Pick: “Superior Foes of Spider-Man”

That feeling when a comic just gets you.

Vince’s Picks: “Marvel Knights: Spider-Man” #5

The Vertigo Comics Adventures of Spider-Man comes to an end. I think this page is the best example I can give of the wonderful approach Marco Rudy and Val Staples (the colorist) took to the art on this book. It actually changed the way that I saw Marco Rudy as an artist, who did great “traditional” work on “Swamp Thing” for the ‘New 52′. Val Staples cemented himself as one of the premiere colorists that Marvel has in their stable right now. The story was pretty much what you would expect out of a comic that promises 99 villains in only 5 issues. This is to say, it was a roller coaster ride where the plot itself didn’t matter so much. Kindt set ’em up and the art team absolutely knocked ’em down.

James’ Pick: “Loki: Agent of Asgard” #1

I too am shocked that, out of all the panels from Loki: Agent of Assgard, I didn’t choose any of the ones with his nips.

Truly a progressive time.

David’s Pick: “Ms. Marvel” #1

Two panels.

Two panels is all it took for me to realize Kamala Khan was amazing.

I mean, is there anything more relatable than lusting after something you can’t have, be it a love interest or infidel meats? There really isn’t, and the way G. Willow Wilson loaded the book up front with moments like this, and the way Adrian Alphona did such a phenomenal of bringing them to life, made this issue not about Ms. Marvel, but about Kamala Khan. That’s the way it should have been, and we’re so lucky it was.

Zach’s Pick: The same panel from “Ms. Marvel” #1

Beautifully drawn, smartly written and flat out hilarious. Just take my dollars, all of them.
