Saturday Morning Panels (Week of 4/9/14)

Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels, your new favorite Multiversity column! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.

And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.

We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks:

“Adventures of Superman” #50 – I for one can not wait to see what Kelly Sue and Valentine do for “Bitch Planet.” I’ll happily take this in the meantime, though. – Matthew Meylikhov

“All-New Doop” #1 – You had me at “Somewhere in Doopspace. – Matthew Meylikhov

“All-New Ghost Rider” #1 – Tradd Moore always finds surprising new ways to make ANGR one of the best books, art wise, on shelves. – James Johnston

“All-New X-Men” #25 – Maris Wicks nails the best parts of Joss Whedon’s fantastic run on “X-Men” in two panels. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Avengers Undercover” #2 – Normally I hate when comics I read try to ape aspects of youth culture because it comes out awkward, but Hopeless and Walker nail the sarcasm and subtle irony of this book tenfold. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Captain Marvel” #2 – Ha ha! Cats. Am I right, guys? Cats. – Matthew Meylikhov, roommate of 4 cats

“Daredevil” #1.50 – I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve been missing this kind of Daredevil. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Deadpool” #27 – I don’t know when it happened, but at some point Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn turned their somewhat overdone and obnoxious Deadpool into one with a good deal of heart. I feel bad for deriding the first issue as much as I did, because now I just straight up love this book, and this issue (as overpriced as it was) nailed it. – Matthew Meylikhov

“East of West” #11 – Nick Dragotta is a master of design, but his design for the last nation to be revealed is maybe my favorite yet. Plus, just a hugely ominous and heavy on the atmosphere scene. – David Harper

“Invincible” #110 – For a guy known for writing shocking things, this scene was maybe the most shocking of all. – David Harper

“Iron Fist, the Living Weapon” #1 – Kaare Andrews’s update of Iron Fist is gritty as what but the humor is definitely still there. – James Johnston

“Iron Fist, the Living Weapon” #1 – With the words “BECOME THE MACHINE”, Kaare Andrews completely sold me on this book. Which is weird, because it in itself was awesome. – David Harper

“Lumberjanes” #1 – I really appreciated how lithe and ethereal these foxes were compared to everything else in the book. It was subtle, but it made them seem otherworldly. – Vince Ostrowski

“Nightcrawler” #1 – I nearly stood up and cheered when Claremont and Nauck slipped this reference in. – Vince Ostrowski

“Secret Avengers” #1 – Someone call FedEx cuz I’m shipping it. – James Johnston

“Shutter” #1 – This book was all kinds of wonderful, and this page was the most wonderful of all. – David Harper

“What If? Age of Ultron” #2 – I feel like it was just yesterday I was fawning over this guy Ramon Villalobos’ art in a comic called “LP.” And now he’s illustrating a Marvel book? To quote the great bard Waka Flocka, real recognize real. – Matthew Meylikhov
