Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels, your new favorite Multiversity column! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.
And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.
We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks –

Matthew’s Pick: “The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys” #1
KILLJOYS! MAKE SOME NOISE! Love the structure of this sequence, how it teases both the downfall of the original Killjoys and relates to all the stuff we saw in music videos before the comic series. The whole book did a great job of subverting my expectations about what a Killjoys comic would even be about (how it’s about the aftermath of the story from the record, rather than an explanation), and while I loved the whole book this final sequence is what really nailed it for me as a wonderful new entry in Gerard Way and Becky Cloonan’s careers, as well as a great comic debut from Shaun Simon.

David’s Pick: “Wolverine and the X-Men” #31
Jason Aaron is hilarious, and he is also hilariously referential. On the same page he has burns on internet message board members and St. Louis while also referencing fridging. In a super fun issue, this part stood out the most, if only because it was so unexpected.

Walt’s Pick: “Manhattan Projects” #12
Have you ever been in the presence of someone who is so intelligent that it is intimidating? I’ve met a few people like that — they’re so full of knowledge that it makes me afraid to even say anything, because I’m convinced it will sound so plain and dumb compared to the level at which their brain operates. Now imagine someone like that holding a chainsaw. I’m shaking in my shoes. This is one of many pages of this series that I feel could be used as a response to “What is ‘The Manhattan Projects’ about?” in substitution of an actual synopsis… hell, it would probably hook potential readers better than actually describing it.

James’ Pick: “Suicide Squad” #21
Ales Kot’s gangsta skeelz are my favorite thing to happen to DC in a long time.

Vince’s Pick: “Batman” #21
I’m still not sure how I feel about ‘Zero Year’ – even after having read the first issue. It was okay. What is better than okay, however, is a raggedy biker Batman with purple gloves.
