Saturday Morning Panels (Week of 6/18/14)

Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels, your new favorite Multiversity column! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.

And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.

We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks:

“Adventure Time” #29: Aww, Flynn and Blake. Cheer up, buddies. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Alex + Ada” #7: It doesn’t help that he looks similar, but I read all of this guy’s dialogue in the Office Space “O Face” guy’s voice. – Vince Ostrowski; More like, “Alright, alright, alright.”Matthew Meylikhov

“Alex + Ada” #7: In a book filled with great characters, Alex’s grandma is one hip, hip, hip chick. – David Harper

“Batman Eternal” #11: I don’t read this book, but pulling in Ian Bertram to illustrate is certainly something that catches my eye — especially when you get panels like this. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Batman Eternal” #11: I was starting to feel like this weekly series needed a kick in the proverbial pants pretty soon, and I think it got one with Ian Bertram’s art. It was refreshing to see another DC book with a unique look, in a time where they tend to use similar styles through their line. If social media is any indication, some readers didn’t seem to care for it, but I absolutely loved it. – Vince Ostrowski

“Fatale” #23: I think these two panels sum up the latest issue of “Fatale” pretty well. – Matthew Meylikhov

“The Manhattan Projects” #21: This is either going to lead to the weirdest fan fiction ever, or Jonathan Hickman writing a plot line that is eerily similar to said fan fiction. Or both. Beware Yuri Gagarin, Laika! He’s going to have the hots for you! – David Harper

“Original Sin” #4: That is literally the nastiest thing a person could say to The Punisher. The least realistic thing in a comic that is effectively about an old guy and his robots, an all seeing alien eye, and a guy whose head is literally a giant eye is the fact that The Punisher didn’t straight up murder Bucky for that. – David Harper

“Sex Criminals” #6: “Nailed it” is kind of putting it lightly, isn’t it? – Matthew Meylikhov

“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time” #1: I’m already mad that Allor/Campbell isn’t the ongoing team of this comic. – Matthew Meylikhov

“The Wicked + The Divine” #1: Never has a comic conveyed the ‘concert as religious experience’ feeling better than this two page spread did. Bravura work by McKelvie and Wilson, here. – David Harper

“The Wicked + The Divine” #1: This was basically me when I saw Neutral Milk Hotel live. – Vince Ostrowski; And this was Los Campesinos! for me – James Johnston; And my axe! – Matthew Meylikhov

“The Wicked + The Divine” #1: For what it’s worth, Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie have a keener sense of the Internet Age and the Millennial than anyone else in comics. – Vince Ostrowski
