Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels, your new favorite Multiversity column! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.
And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.
We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks –
Matthew’s Pick: “Hawkeye” #11
The duality between this scene and one of Hawkeye himself in an earlier issue is perhaps my favorite moment of the issue. It’s not a subtle callback or anything, but it’s brilliant in how it shows the differences that make Pizza Dog and Hawkeye the new Dynamic Duo.
Plus, it shows of David Aja’s brilliance. Not that you need to be reminded, but, well, it’s always nice to see. “Hawkeye” #11 is getting a lot of praise, and deservedly so, but its the way in which the issue really shows off Lucky’s world in comparison to Clint’s that makes it so special and unique. This page is the prime example of that.
David’s Pick: Also “Hawkeye” #11
AWWWWWWWWWWWW. This comic was so good, but the relationship between the puppy and Lucky was so damn good. This issue was a pitch perfect example of visual storytelling, and will own all of the Eisners if the world is just.
The David With a Cute Accent’s Pick: “Batman/Superman” #1
This is kind of cheating because it’s a full page, but honestly when the page looks this good how could I break it down into panels? Jae Lee’s panel structure in this issue was fantastic and the dude needs to be on this book forever.
Zach’s Pick: Also “Batman/Superman” #1
I literally could have picked any panel in this issue as my favorite of the week, but I felt like this one is most fitting to represent the title of “Batman/Superman.” But seriously, this whole book is gorgeous.
James’ Pick: “FF” #8
In related Matt Fraction is slowly taking over Multiversity news, this panel made me punch every wall I could find.
Vince’s Pick: Justice League #21
“Shazam” was a really nice story, because even if on the surface it looked like DC Comics was trying to darken it, Geoff Johns and Gary Frank pushed through that and really maintained what is majestic about the character. Most of all, we finally got a glimpse of the “Shazam Family” in action. And damn, that Gary Frank can pencil, can’t he?
