Saturday Morning Panels (Week of 7/16/2013)

Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels, your new favorite Multiversity column! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.

And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.

We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks –

Matthew’s Pick: “FF” #9

I love the idea that Bently would make a documentary in the style of Werner Herzog, which is especially relevant with the Act of Killing‘s recent release. “Hawkeye” inspires a lot of t-shirts for fans but I can’t help but cross my fingers that we’ll get a WWHD t-shirt just for me.

David’s Pick: “Thor: God of Thunder” #10

I think one of the most amazing parts about Gorr, the villain of this first mega arc, is his complete and absolute dedication to his one quest: to kill all gods. The moment when his wife turns on him – in his mind – is basically an underline on the character. His hatred of gods overwhelms his love of his family, meaning what he has to do has become greater than what he wants in the end. Just spectacular narrative tension from the character, and when Gorr realizes what his wife said? Holy shit. Esad Ribic kills it, and made me audibly say “oh damn” in response.

James’ Pick: Also “Thor: God of Thunder” #10

Time travel and Thor is the new chocolate and peanut butter.

Vince’s Pick: “Deadpool” #13

Another “Deadpool” flashback issue, means another book with about a dozen or so panels I could have picked. This one best represented the flashback issues though – I’m surprised at how much they get away with in these things sometimes. I love the comic timing of this panel too.

Michelle’s Pick: “Revival” #12

THIS WHOLE SEQUENCE, YOU GUYS. Just when it starts looking like this series is getting into a bit of a predictable groove — at least aesthetically — Seeley and Norton throw us the most adorable curveball ever.

Walt’s Pick: “All New X-Men” #14

I’ll be honest, I didn’t really dig this issue of “All-New X-Men.” While I’ve been pretty vocal about my enjoyment of Bendis’s X-Men books, this issue was a bit too rough around the edges for my liking. That being said, I laughed out loud at this page, so the issue gets a few points for that. Classic Bobby!
