Saturday Morning Panels (Week of 9/17/14)

Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.

And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.

We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks:

“All-New X-Men” #32: Congratulations! Here’s everything you need to know about Miles Morales! Now you have no excuse not to read his book every month. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Avengers” #35: I believe the appropriate tumblr-speak reaction to this sequence is, “I ship it,” right? Either way, loved the parallels between Superman Hyperion and Thor here, especially since Thor is the new Superman. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Avengers” #35: There are a certain number of characters that will cause me to involuntarily yell “MY BOY!” at them like I’m in a 3D-i Zelda game. Amadeus Cho is one of the few to receive that honor. – James Johnston

“Batman Eternal” #24: “I don’t know if it’s art, but I like it!” As a fanatic of Tim Burton’s Batman film, that quote naturally popped into my head. – Keith Dooley

“BPRD: Hell on Earth” #123: Agent Enos was the star of this issue for me, and this whole sequence was utterly brilliant acting and dialogue. Well done, Team BPRD. Well done. – David Harper

“Daredevil” #8: Purple Man looks like he gave this whole “mind control everyone into giving you everything” two seconds of thought. Bro didn’t even bother getting free laser tag 24/7 before sitting around and moping. – James Johnston

“Deadly Class” #7: We know Saya is a badass, but to see Saya be one is an even bigger delight. That picture is worth more than the average thousand words, for sure. – David Harper

“Deadly Class” #7: Who doesn’t want a book deal? – Leo Johnson

“Edge of Spider-Verse” #2: I want a new Spider-Gwen comic even more than I want a new Scott Pilgrim comic. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Edge of Spider-Verse” #2: Glowing with punk-rock power and sass Ms. Gwen Stacy asks the ultimate question circulating in comics right now-“What’s a girl gotta do to impress its readers?” Her answer: Get the job done, with wit, and without any assistance from some lover story-line to justify her own moral beliefs. Also: Sucker-punch. – Cassandra Clarke

“The New 52: Futures End” #20: “Anybody else feel a slight breeze?” – Vince Ostrowski

“The Life After” #3: Ernest Hemingway: Even in the after life he’s still manlier than anyone else. – Leo Johnson

“The Multiversity: The Society of Superheroes: Conquerors of the Counter-World” #1: I wish we lived on an Earth where reading comic books was just as common as watching a movie. A boy can dream. – Keith Dooley

“Original Sin” #5.5: “Thor & Loki – The Fifth Realm” #5: I believe Odin could give Macklemore a few tips on how to appropriately walk into the club. – Matthew Meylikhov

“The Private Eye” #8: Panel/page of the week. Hands down. – David Harper

“The Private Eye” #8: This book is filled with examples as to why BKV and Marcos Martin are such a phenomenal team, but this panel is pitch perfect comic booking. Couldn’t love it more. – David Harper

“Shutter” #6: It’s a fair question given the circumstance, but… I mean, do you know how hard it can be to find some of your favorite albums on vinyl? If you’ve got the chance to look, you may as well. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Shutter” #6: I’m a huge sucker for the sequence where on one side of the frame you have characters talking, while on the other, some nasty jazz is about to go down. – Matthew Garcia

Continued below

“Supreme: Blue Rose” #3: Tula Lotay’s art bowls me over every time. – Vince Ostrowski

“Thor, God of Thunder” #25: Things like this are what make Jason Aaron’s work on Thor so great. Everything feels so mythic in scale, it’s impossible to not want to find out what’s next. – David Harper

“Trees” #5: Because really human moments in a book with giant, alien monoliths is what makes me love “Trees.” – Leo Johnson

“Uncanny X-Men” #26: … So, Cyclops was wrong, then? – Matthew Meylikhov

“The Unwritten: Apocalypse” #9: We’re pretty close to the end now, but “The Unwritten” never really fails to still bring out the ‘oh shit‘ moments. – Matthew Meylikhov

“The Wicked + The Divine” #4: Laura is me when I met Zach Woods. – James Johnston

“The Wicked + The Divine” #4: McKelvie did a great job taking over art for “Fabulous Killjoys.” – James Johnston

“The Wicked + The Divine” #4: Perfect indeed. I would’ve also accepted this track as well. – Matthew Meylikhov
