Saturday Morning Panels (Week of 9/3/14)

Hello, and welcome to Saturday Morning Panels! It’s a very simple concept: since none of us are up to watching Saturday morning cartoons anymore, we are instead going to share with you our favorite panels from the week before. It’s a bit like Comics Should Be Cheap, except with more pictures and less reading.

And, of course, spoilers are probably abundant.

We encourage you to play along at home and let us know what your favorite moments of the week were in the comment section! In the meantime, our picks:

“Captain America” #24: Every once in a while, a new sound effect comes out that can help define a generation. Today, I’m pleased to share with you our new favorite sound effect: GRA-DWOOOOOM! – Matthew Meylikhov

“God Hates Astronauts” #1: This is literally on the first page of the first issue of this series. If you somehow thought that you should skip out on picking it up, what the hell is wrong with you? – Matthew Meylikhov

“Original Sin” #8: James said it best in his review of the issue that Uatu was really the villain of the series, but that didn’t make this moment any less melancholy. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Rocket Raccoon” #3: Once again, Skottie Young has figured out how to take something that should be horrifying and make it adorable! – Matthew Meylikhov

“She-Hulk” #8: Well, now I know what my new screenname is for everything ever. How the hell did I never think of this? – Matthew Meylikhov

“Southern Bastards” #4: I remember, reading “Scalped,” how the book always managed to offer up gut-punches of scenes. Jason Aaron and RM Guera just seemed to get storytelling on another level. It’s nice to see that same gravel in your guts attitude prevalent in “Southern Bastards,” because holy shit was this an issue. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Superior Foes of Spider-Man” #15: “Superior Foes” has consistently been a book that is far too aware of itself. This sequence was yet another stalwart example of why “Superior Foes” could end up being one of Marvel’s most underrated titles of the past decade. – Matthew Meylikhov

“Uncanny X-Men” #25: I feel like everyone who writes the X-Men gets to use this phrase at least once, so they better make it count. And, for all intents and purposes, while I have my own not-quite-positive thoughts on the current arc, this was certainly a moment that counted. – Matthew Meylikhov
