The bookcase purge for charity continues! You can see a complete list of all auctions here, in chronological order starting with the latest, here. Full auction details are included at the end of the article, but to bring the new folks up to speed real quick:
Every weekday until Friday, June 5th, we publish a new Shelf Bound article announcing a bind or bound set up for auction.
Each bind auction’s bidding starts when its article is published and ends 72 hours later, so today’s auction will close at 4 PM EST on May 22, 2020.
Bids must be posted in an item’s comment section to be considered for that item; highest bid posted before close of auction wins.
Bids from outside the U.S. are welcome, although shipping outside the U.S. may incur additional fee. Bids posted in currencies other than US dollars will be valued at their USD equivalent.
The winning bidder emails me (greg at multiversity comics dot com) to verify donation particulars, then makes the donation and send me verification.
I send out the bind.
Everyone wins.
30 weekdays. 34 binds. All proceeds going to charity. Sound good? Let’s get to it!

A Multiversity podcaster recently described DC’s New 52 thusly: “Sure, there were some diamonds in the rough. But the rough was REALLY rough!”
That said, I come not to bury the DiDio/Lee initiative, but praise it. We most likely wouldn’t have gotten the Snyder/Capullo creative pairing without it. In a publishing line replete with creative teams either shuffled like cards or eking out each issue under an editorial Sword of Damocles, this odd couple of comics n00b and industry vet kicked off their run so conspicuously strong that Batman was immediately the title everyone was reading.

I had the chance to interview the duo later in their run than the comics collected here, but its worth reading to get a look at not only their dynamic, but also Capullo’s work with long-time colorist FCO Plascencia.

As you can see from the pics, I used the TPBs for this bind, which means no ads and all the variant covers are included sans trade dress.

Quick bit of history about this signature: I got it from Snyder at a Third Eye Comics signing back in late Jan/early Feb 2015(?) when they were at their original Annapolis location. I remember showing up an hour early for the signing and the line already was not only out the store and around the side of the building, but eventually stretched behind the building ALL THE WAY TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STRIP MALL before it was capped! It was sure cold but the clear blue sky and sun helped stave off the chill as long as you could stay out of the shade, which became more difficult as the day wore on. The mood was good, the staff kept us informed, and the occasional sight of pizza purchased from the Papa Johns next door brought some laughs. By the time I made it into the store, there was still another hour to go before I got to actually see Snyder. I mention all this not as a ‘woe is me’, but to confirm the fact he is a genuinely cool dude. At hour 6 of a signing originally scheduled for maybe 2, he was just as pumped and appreciative and engaging as if he’d just shown up.

So you COULD take the time & effort to track down the original issues or collections . . .
Continued belowturn them into your own book via a binder using the techniques & approaches we cover every month in Shelf Bound . . .
and wait the hours and hours in line to get Snyder to sign it for you, which he (and Capullo) will enthusiastically do . . .
OR
you could bid on the bind we’re auctioning today, get the benefit of someone else doing all that work for you, AND do some good for the comics community we all love in the process!
