Hello and welcome back to Saturday Morning Panels!

With the shutdown of Diamond Comics Distributors due to COVID-19, there won’t be new comics for who knows how long. Rather than put our column on hold, we took a page out of our Special Edition playbook and bring you our favorite panels around a particular theme. This week: the best of Batman and the Bat-Family.

So kick-back, watch out for spoilers, and talk about your favorites in the comments section below! And if you have an idea for a theme for an upcoming installment, leave it in the comments. Stay safe, wash your hands, and stop touching your face. (Reading a comic will help with that last one!)

“Batgirl” #8: Every year on her birthday, Cassandra Cain’s mom tries to kill her. Happy birthday my dude. – Jake Hill

“Batgirl” #24 : Ideas like this are why Bryan Q Miller’s “Batgirl” run is my all-time fave. Stephanie is all about hope, Barbara about willpower, and Damian about vengeance. Perfect. – Jake Hill

“Batman” #36: Batman and Superman dressing in each others clothes is pretty fetishy. Them dressing their respective wives in each others clothes is VERY fetishy. The whole enterprise is extremely fetishy. – Jake Hill

“Batman” #79: I know you’re just doing your job Jaime, and know this is not directed at you, but I must express my heartiest, and deepest, fuck you for the necessity of this editorial box. – Elias Rosner

“Batman” #408: Jason Todd is a legendary scumbum. – Jake Hill

“Batman (2016)” #5: Just once he wishes someone would believe that. – Greg Ellner

“Batman: Dammed” #1: Mmmmm, Bat ass. – Elias Rosner

“Batman: Earth One” Volume 2: When the crocodile man in the sewer questions your fashion choices, it might be time to rethink your life. – Greg Ellner

“Batman Gotham Adventures” #26: Batman is prepared for anything except for… babysitting! – Jake Hill

“Batman Inc” #8: Grant Morrison making me cry, exhibit #172. – Jake Hill

“Batman: Kings of Fear” #3: “Hey, how did you do th-” “Because I’m Batman!” – Elias Rosner

“Batman: Pennyworth R.I.P.” #1: King: i have made profundity. Tynion: you fucked up a perfectly good hero is what you did. look at it. it’s got family issues. – Elias Rosner

“Batman and Robin (2011)” #28: Tomasi writes the best Bat-Dad. – Greg Ellner

“Batman & Robin Eternal” #1: This isn’t a Tale from the Dark Multiverse is it? The one about Bat-Gun, the oedipal Batman. – Elias Rosner

“Batman Vs Ra’s Al Ghul” #1: BAT-DICK, STEALER OF DOGS. – Elias Rosner

“Batman: War on Crime”: Not sure how well this holds up but it is so powerful and rare to see Batman being so compassionate and understanding – Christopher Chiu-Tabet

“Batman: Year One”: *Batman Begins score intensifies* – Christopher Chiu-Tabet

“Batman: Year One”: Gregory Peck was an unusual idea for a Bruce Wayne model but my goodness does it work – Christopher Chiu-Tabet

“Batman: Year One”: I try not to post whole pages but my word this entire moment is Batman personified – Christopher Chiu-Tabet

“Batwoman” #2: Panel grids? JH Williams don’t need no stinking panel grids! – Jake Hill

“Batwoman” (2012) #17: Let these two be gay and happy again DC. LOOK HOW BEAUTIFUL THIS PAGE IS. – Elias Rosner

“Batwoman” (2012) #24: It’s a fight 24 issues in the making. Who will win? How awesome will it be?! . . .what do you mean it’s never resolved? What do you mean they pulled the two final, fully scripted issues of this arc? What do you mean it was resolved a year later in an annual??? I’m not still bitter. Not at all. – Elias Rosner

“Detective Comics” #874: This is supposed to be scary but instead it feels like I stumbled into the start of a VERY weird porno. – Elias Rosner

Continued below

“Detective Comics” #955 : “Picks hidden in his hands” is so gross but it’s so Batman. – Jake Hill

“Detective Comics” #1000 : Where’s my “Slam Bradley and the Guild of Detection” ongoing!? – Jake Hill

“Detective Comics” Annual #1: Waugh! To be punched by Batman is divine. – Elias Rosner

“Grayson” #3: All he wanted was to see his kids one last time, but how can you look at your kids when you have… GUNS FOR EYES!!?. – Jake Hill

“Injustice Year One” #12: His first mistake was fucking with a gentleman’s gentleman. – Jake Hill
“Injustice Year One” #12:I still think that this moment showed why Alfred should have gotten a playable role as a downloadable content character, but alas. – Greg Ellner

“Injustice: Year Three” #2: Thank you, Tom Taylor et al., for the sheer ridiculousness that is this moment. – Greg Ellner

“Nightwing (1996)” #53: Advantage: Alfred. – Greg Ellner

“Sexy Batman”: From Kate Beaton’s “Hark! A Vagrant” webcomics. Many artists have tried to capture the essence of Batman. Only Beaton has succeeded. – Mark Tweedale

“Shadow of the Batgirl”: This is the bestest, coolest, cutest goddamn comic book. – Jake Hill

“The Batman Who Laughs” #5: Stand Name: [BAT OUTTA HELL], Stand Master: The #$%^&*$ Batman, Localization Name: [Flying Mouse in Purgatory]
“The Dark Knight Returns”: Batman – a man. But also more than just a man – Christopher Chiu-Tabet

“The Dark Knight Returns”: Magnifico! – Christopher Chiu-Tabet

“The Dark Knight Returns”: This entire sequence on horseback is glorious, yet I don’t think Miller ever realized how tragically relevant this would become – Christopher Chiu-Tabet
