Hello and welcome back to Saturday Morning Panels!

With the shutdown of Diamond Comics Distributors due to COVID-19, there haven’t been new comics. Rather than put our column on hold, we took a page out of our Special Edition playbook and bring you our favorite panels around a particular theme.

Two weeks ago, our Reader Poll celebrated 8 years since the first Avengers film with the question: who of the core Avengers from that 2012 film had the best character arc? (Find out who our readers chose here.) We in turn asked our staff to share their favorite moments from Avengers stories through the years, both solo books and group stories.

So kick-back, watch out for spoilers, and talk about your favorites in the comments section below! And if you have an idea for a theme for an upcoming installment, leave it in the comments. Stay safe, wash your hands, and stop touching your face. (Reading a comic will help with that last one!)

“Avengers” (1998) #1: Ah, must be a Thursday. – Elias Rosner

“Avengers” #7 : The best Ghost Rider is one with a mammoth. -Joe Skonce

“Avengers” #11: One of the best anime remix covers of all time! – Jake Hill
“Avengers” #11: Is. . .Is Jessica dabbing? – Elias Rosner

“Avengers” #12: Let’s list the best Avengers. Number one: Broo. End of list. – Jake Hill

“Avengers” #13: Exquisite doom is mood of the day. Would you like some dragon steaks to go with it? – Elias Rosner

“Avengers” #17: Thori is the best murder dog and I can prove it scientifically. – Robbie Pleasant

“Avengers” #21: You know, this is exactly what I assumed the Avengers’ after hours dynamic would look like. – Jake Hill

“Avengers” #22: Best line delivery in “Avengers” history? Best line delivery in comics history! – Jake Hill

“Avengers” #28: Punching Nazis makes one worthy. This is canon. – Robbie Pleasant

“Avengers” #31: I’m not even sure how that’s supposed to work, but I dig it nonetheless. – Robbie Pleasant

“Avengers” #34: It was right here, at this moment, that I really truly got Captain America. – Joe Skonce

“Avengers” #40: The showdown between T’Challa and Namor MIGHT be one of my top 5 comics moments. Ever. – Joe Skonce

“Avengers Arena” #1: I can’t believe there was a time when someone decided Arcade needed a “sexy Weird Al” phase.- Jake Hill

“Avengers Halloween Special”: This whole page is fucking chilling.- Elias Rosner

“Avengers: No Road Home” #10: Oh shit, Peter Cannon has invaded the House of Ideas! Run! – Elias Rosner

“Avengers: No Road Home” #10: This page gave me chills. – Robbie Pleasant

“Dark Avengers” #1: On the one hand, the Avengers press conference is boring and played out. But on the other hand, an eeeeevil press conference? Okay, now you’re talking.- Jake Hill

“Hawkeye” (2012) #7: There’s only one thing you can do Hawkguy — fuggedaboutit. – Elias Rosner

“Hawkeye (2016)” #6: Ah Ladyhawke. Featuring Ferris Bueller before he was Ferris Bueller, just in tights. – Kate Kosturski

“Immortal Hulk” #10: Me when I see drama posts and subtweeting in comics twitter. – Dexter Buschetelli

“New Avengers” #3: This is the most exciting comic issue of all time that was mostly just dudes reading graphs. – Jake Hill

“New Avengers” #7: You’d think Cap would know better than to trust the group unironically referring to themselves as the Illuminati. – Dexter Buschetelli

“New Avengers” #7: It’s still not the worst thing Paul Jenkins has ever done. That would be bringing back the Slingers – Dexter Buschetelli

“Occupy Avengers” #1: Y’all slept on this excellent superhero comic because it had a dumb title. – Jake Hill

“Secret Avengers” #1: This bit never stops being funny to me. – Jake Hill

Continued below

“Secret Avengers” #4: Remember that stretch of time in 2010 when Marvel heroes couldn’t stop putting on each others helmets? – Jake Hill

“Secret Wars” #7: Looks like a king. Hasn’t got $#*& all over ‘im. – Greg Ellner

“Secret Wars” #8: Dr. Doom is the best character in Marvel. Maybe ever. – Joe Skonce
“Secret Wars” #8: But of course! Who are we to doubt DOOM? – Greg Ellner

“Siege” #3: No jokes here. I just wanted to say Sentry tearing Ares apart in the splash page that following this panel is one of my favorite gory moments in a mainstream superhero book. – Dexter Buschetelli

“The Mighty Avengers” (2007) #1: The Initiative was a garbage status-quo but we got Cho’s Thicc Tony so all is right with the world. – Elias Rosner

“The Vision” #5: The juxtaposition of this speech and the events of this issue is just so perfect. Tom King could learn a thing or two from Tom King. – Elias Rosner

“West Coast Avengers” #10: People let me tell you bout my best friend… – Kate Kosturski
“West Coast Avengers” #10: I have nothing to add that could make this any better. I’ll just miss this series so much. Jeff needs to return in as many comics as possible. – Robbie Pleasant

“West Coast Avengers” #10: If I could, I’d fill this whole column with Jeff to protest the unfair cancellation of the only series to make me like Gwenpool and Quentin. #justiceforjeff, #howdareyoucancelwestcoastavengersyoumonsters. – Elias Rosner

“West Coast Avengers” #10: Marvel always has some great con exclusive shirts, and I feel like this was a big missed opportunity here. – Kate Kosturski

“West Coast Avengers” #10: Who do I have to speak to at Marvel to pitch a Thori and Jeff spinoff? Because I want to write it and it will run for a hundred issues of face-eating, murdering fun. #JusticeForJeff. – Robbie Pleasant

“Young Avengers” #4: Being a superhero is awesome, everyone should try it. – Jake Hill
