Soliciting Multiversity: Marvel’s Top 10 for November 2022

November! There are things that happen in November, like… Thanksgiving and Black Friday. Those have nothing to do with comics, but we can still give thanks (and support our local comic book shops during Black Friday, and every other week at that), because there’s a lot of exciting comics coming out from Marvel. So many, in fact, that it was hard to pick a top spot for this month, so let’s see what’s in store.

10. Is This Amazing?

Ben Reilly hasn’t had the best time lately, after having most of his memories taken away and basically having his return to heroism fall apart on him pretty badly. Now he’s gone bad once again, and it’s leading into a new “Dark Web” event. Poor guy keeps swinging around between hero and villain, but his new Chasm persona is definitely on the darker side. So let’s see what’s next for Spider-Man and his clone as their next story begins

Amazing Spider-Man #14
Written by Zeb Wells
Illustrated by Michael Dowling and Kyle Hotz
Cover by John Romita Jr.
Variant covers by Alex Maleev and John Staub

• “DARK WEB” PRELUDE!
• We haven’t seen Chasm since ASM #894 and the FCBD issue, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been busy.
• Join us for this very special issue featuring Spidey’s most dangerous new villain as well as the Goblin Queen and a BRAND-NEW villain that you won’t believe.

9. So Extreme!

I have a confession to make… anything “Extreme” brings out an old part of me from the 90’s, one that I thought was buried away. So if you tell me Chris Claremont is coming back to write a new “X-Treme X-Men” story, well, that appeals to me on a spiritual level. (And yes, I know the original “X-Treme X-Men” came out in 2001, but that’s 90’s adjacent enough to count.) But nostalgia aside, to call Chris Claremont a legend among “X-Men” writers barely does him enough credit, so for him to write a new story, well, that’s always going to be worth reading.

X-Treme X-Men #1 (of 5)
Written by Chris Claremont
Illustrated by Salvador Larroca
Cover by Salvador Larroca
Variant covers by Salvador Larroca, Phil Noto, Chrissie Zullo, and Carlos Gómez

• THE X-TREME TEAM IS BACK!
• Legendary X-scribe Chris Claremont reunites with artistic dynamo Salvador Larroca for an all-new story set just after the groundbreaking original run of X-TREME X-MEN! A powerful psychic attack on KITTY PRYDE from her old enemy OGUN brings the X-Treme team back together for a high-stakes mission…but what secret is Ogun hiding, and will even the combined might of BISHOP, SAGE, GAMBIT, ROGUE, RACHEL SUMMERS, STORM and WOLVERINE be enough to stop his insidious plan?
• The X-citement starts here, with the kickoff to the arc that will have wide-reaching implications for some of your favorite X-characters!

8. But Will He Eat a Potato Chip?

Thanos is inevitable. He always comes back, and now, Thor is getting ready for him. This will give us a look at Thanos’ past and build on the Mad Titan, while setting the stage for another new clash. What’s not to like about that? Throw in some excellent writers and artists and you know it’s gonna be a good one.

And even with “Death Notes” in the title, you know Thanos doesn’t have to write a name to kill anyone. He can just do that himself.

Thanos: Death Notes #1
Written by J. Michael Straczynski, Torunn Grønbekk, Kyle Starks, and Christopher Cantwell
Illustrated by Andrea Di Vito, Ron Lim, Travel Foreman, and more
Cover by Andrea Sorrentino
Variant covers by Daniel Acuña, Ed McGuinness, E.M. Gist, and Leinil Francis Yu

• Spinning out of Donny Cates & Nic Klein’s THOR comes an all-new Thanos one-shot, with Ron Lim’s return to the Mad Titan!
• Thanos is missing, presumed dead. But Thor has seen a vision of his return. And it is enough to make even a God fear. To prepare himself, to prepare the universe, Thor desperately searches for answers in Thanos’ past…and finds a glimpse of the Marvel Universe’s dark future.

7. Zounds!

Jason Aaron’s “Avengers” run is heading towards its epic conclusion… and setting up an even more epic story. So after visiting Avengers and legacy characters throughout history, now we’re getting to meet Agamotto himself. Whatever kind of sorcery and magic awaits, we know by now to expect nothing but excitement and intrigue from Jason Aaron and Ivan Fiorelli, so it’s sure to go out on the highest of high notes.

Avengers #62

• HISTORY’S MIGHTIEST HEROES: CONCLUSION!
• The Avengers’ epic quest through the darkest and weirdest corners of time comes to an end with an issue that focuses on the prehistoric forefather of all things dark and weird in Marvel history: Earth’s very first Sorcerer Supreme. Prepare to see all of history through the eyes of Agamotto.

6. But Will it Strike Back?

The “Star Wars” comics have been taking the Crimson Dawn story and running with it, and by all accounts, it’s been a great way to fill the space between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi while building on plot points from Solo. That continues with “Hidden Empire,” as Qi’ra and Crimson Dawn continue their clash with the Empire – and while we may know they won’t win, it’s certainly been fun to watch.

Star Wars: Hidden Empire #1 (of 5)
Written by Charles Soule
Illustrated by Steven Cummings
Cover by Arthur Adams
Variant covers by Steven Cummings, Declan Shalvey, and David Lopez

• The mysterious syndicate CRIMSON DAWN and its leader LADY QI’RA have become the galaxy’s most wanted criminals, as EMPEROR PALPATINE realizes the scope of Qi’ra’s plans against him and moves to destroy her.
• But Qi’ra still has tricks up her sleeve, and with the help of the KNIGHTS OF REN and her many other allies, she will not go down without a fight!

5. 650 Celebration

It’s almost hard to believe these days that Iron Man was once considered a B-list hero, when now he’s one of the most recognizable metallic faces in all of Marvel. But when you’re celebrating 650 issues of “Iron Man,” it’s gonna be a big one. We’ve got multiple writers and artists creating stories to celebrate Tony Stark’s legacy, while Christopher Cantwell’s run comes to an end. You won’t want to miss it.

Iron Man #25
Written by Christopher Cantwell, Kurt Busiek, and Murewa Ayodele
Illustrated by Angel Unzueta, Benjamin Dewey, and Dotun Akande
Cover by Alex Ross
Variant covers by Junggeun Yoon and Juan Frigeri

• AN OVERSIZED CELEBRATION OF THE GOLDEN AVENGER’S 650th ISSUE!
• It’s IRON MAN DAY in New York City, but not everyone is ready to celebrate the ongoing legacy of Tony Stark — least of all him. But a sudden crisis will once again test Tony’s heroism and challenge his commitment to the role he has assumed for himself. Must there be an Iron Man?
• Christopher Cantwell concludes his thought-provoking and powerful run as writer, as illustrated by Angel Unzueta.
• PLUS! Murewa Ayodele and Dotun Akande tell a tale of Iron Man’s quest to locate Thor amid the frozen wastelands of Niffleheim. Kurt Busiek and Ben Dewey pair up to provide an all-new vintage Iron Man adventure from the distant past featuring Madame Masque and the Radioactive Man! And get a special glimpse of what’s coming up next for the Armored Avenger!

4. You Know What Time it is

Ryan North is writing the Fantastic Four.

Is that not enough for you? Okay. Iban Coello is doing the illustrations. And Alex Ross is doing the cover.

Look, if that alone doesn’t get you excited, I don’t know what will. Ryan has proven himself a talented writer for teams, characters, and themes of all sorts, from his absolutely incredible run on “Unbeatable Squirrel Girl” to the bone-chilling “Darkhold: Iron Man,” and now he’s got the keys to Marvel’s first family. And did I mention there’s a time loop involved? Because there is.

Consider this a must-read.

Fantastic Four #1

Variant covers by J. Scott Campbell, Arthur Adams, Phil Noto, Alex Ross, Iban Coello, Jack Kirby, and Todd Nauck

• “WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE FANTASTIC FOUR?”
• It’s the start of a new era for the Fantastic Four…and they’re already in a ton of trouble.
• Something has gone terribly wrong in New York, and the Thing and Alicia are traveling across America to escape it!
• But when they stop in a small town for the night and wake up the morning before they arrived, they find themselves caught in a time loop that’s been going on since before they were born…
• That’s been going on since before they were born…
• That’s been going on since before they were born…

3. Don’t Swim in the Deadpool

Deadpool is back.

Well, we can scarcely call it a comeback, since he never left. He’s just been making cameos and having guest roles in other books, including his addition to the “X-Force” team. But now he’s getting a new solo run by Alyssa Wong, and the cover alone tells us that we’re in for a lot of fun. There’s nothing quite as entertaining as a good “Deadpool” comic, and every bit of this solicitation makes it clear that’s exactly what we’re going to get.

Deadpool #1
Written by Alyssa Wong
Illustrated by Martin Coccolo
Cover by Martin Coccolo
Variant covers by Rob Liefeld, David Nakayama, Mike Hawthorne, Jim Cheung, Leinil Francis Yu, David Nakayama, and Tom Reilly

• MARVEL’S TOP MERC IS BACK IN BUSINESS!
• We all know Wade Wilson is one of the top mercenary/assassins in the Marvel Universe, even if he is simultaneously the most annoying one…but he’s pushing to make that recognition official as he auditions for the elite group known as the Atelier. Now, he has 48 hours to kill one of the world’s most famous supervillains. Only problem? He’s been kidnapped, and something…strange…is GROWING INSIDE HIM. Things are going to get gross as writer Alyssa Wong (DOCTOR APHRA, IRON FIST) and artist Martin Coccolo (BANNER OF WAR) take out their pent up aggression on everyone’s pizza-faced, jabber-mouthed, misguided, hate-to-love, love-to-hate fave…Deadpool!

2. After the Judgment

“Judgment Day” is over. Now we get to see what comes next. Kieron Gillen’s event brought the Avengers, Eternals, and X-Men into conflict, then put the whole world on trial, and that’s going to leave a mark. If any of the previous issues have been any indication (and they have been), this is going to hit hard in every way that counts, and I can’t wait to see where it goes. What will change for the Eternals? For the X-Men? For the Marvel universe? We’ll see soon enough.

A.X.E.: Judgment Day Omega #1
Written by Kieron Gillen
Illustrated by Guiu Vilanova
Cover by Pasqual Ferry
Variant covers by Peach Momoko, Alan Davis, and Alexander Lozano

• THE FALLOUT OF JUDGMENT DAY IS FELT!
• After events, we make promises. “Nothing will ever be the same again.” For the Eternals, it’s a lie. It’s always the same and always will be. However, in the wake of Judgment Day, they discover what is truly Eternal…

1. Say It

As mentioned before: Jason Aaron’s “Avengers” run is setting up for something even bigger, and it starts here. Avengers from across the multiverse, from shattered worlds where their timelines have been ripped apart, and the prehistoric Avengers, all coming together for the biggest, baddest battle that comics can bring us. And considering it says “the biggest Avengers saga in Marvel history begins now,” it seems that this is just the start of something just as grand and big. Jason has been pulling out all the stops for his “Avengers” comics, and it’s only going to get bigger and wilder from here. And I can’t wait to see where it goes.

A war that will take us from the prehistoric beginnings of an Earth under assault by the greatest villains who’ve ever lived to the watchtower that stands at the dark heart of the all and the always, where an army of unprecedented evil now rises. The biggest Avengers saga in Marvel history begins now.
