As “Secret Wars” allegedly wraps up, Multiversity Comics takes a look at the ten most interesting picks from Marvel’s solicitations. Check out our picks below and let us know what stuck out to you in the comments.

If you want to follow along here’s Marvel’s December 2015 solicitations courtesy of CBR.

    10. How The Gwenpool Stole Christmas

I’m surprised comic book companies don’t do holiday specials more often, especially as they’re a nice chance for creators to lure in new readers for their titles while telling yuletide stories. It works even better with certain holidays that line up with superhero storytelling (LIKE HALLOWEEN). I’m not entirely sure what a “Gwenpool” is, but I like the image of Peter Parker walking in to see a high-school aged Gwen Stacy dressed as Deadpool, turning around, and immediately entering twelve years of therapy.

    GWENPOOL SPECIAL #1
GERRY DUGGAN, CHARLES SOULE, CHRISTOPHER HASTINGS, VARIOUS (W)
DANILO BEYRUTH, LANGDON FOSS, GURIHIRU, VARIOUS (A)
    COVER BY KRIS ANKA
    GWENPOOL VARIANT BY ROBBI RODRIGUEZ
    SHE-HULK VARIANT BY EMANEULA LUPACCHINO
    DEADPOOL VARIANT BY TBA

    • AN ALL-NEW, ALL-DIFFERENT MARVEL HOLIDAY SPECIAL!
    • She-Hulk throws a holiday party and invites the entire Marvel U!
    • Deadpool teams up with both Hawkeyes – Kate and Clint – to…stop a pickpocket?!
    • Ms. Marvel takes on her most dangerous threat yet: the holiday blues!
    • And then there’s the reason for the season(al special): GWENPOOL!
    • Yup, you read that right – Gwen. Pool. C’mon, you know you’re curious.
    50 PGS./Rated T …$5.99

    9. Gimme A Hellcat Yeah

On one hand, I’m excited to see Kate Leth’s take on Patsy Walker. Her work on “Bravest Warriors” has been rock solid and the art Brittney Williams’s Tumblr is well worth checking out. As fun as this comic is bound to be, I’m a little worried that it might get lost in the shuffle with all the other “Day in the Life” comics that Marvel’s been producing lately. Ever since “Hawkguy” became a huge success story/meme, every other new Marvel title has been about the “regular day-to-day life of Obscure Hero X.” With “Unbeatable Squirrel Girl” and even “Howard the Duck” taking similar approaches to storytelling, I’m wondering what “Patsy Walker, AKA Hellcat” will do to stand out from the pack. Guess we’ll find out in a couple months.

    PATSY WALKER, AKA HELLCAT! #1
    KATE LETH (w) • BRITTNEY WILLIAMS (A/C)
    Variant by SOPHIE CAMPBELL
    Variant by GEORGE PERéZ
Action Figure Variant by JOHN TYLER CHRISTOPHER
    Variant by MARGUERITE SAUVAGE
    Hip-Hop Variant by JAVIER PULIDO

PATSY WALKER has managed to escape her past, her enemies and Hell itself (literally), but nothing compares to job hunting in New York City! Between trying to make rent and dodging (literal) bullets, Patsy barely has time to deal with her mother’s exploitative romance comics about her childhood resurfacing, much less how they start to interfere with her work and dating life. As she goes from living a double life to a triple, what the Hell is Patsy Walker supposed to do? Raise your (literal) claws for PATSY WALKER, AKA HELLCAT!
    32 PGS./Rated T …$3.99

    8. Scarlet Witch Volume 3: Wild Hunt

I have no idea if this is the third volume of “Scarlet Witch”, I just really needed that pun to work.

Scarlet Witch is one of those characters I really want to like, but a history of screwy writing and ill-defined powers has kept her from seeming like a coherent character. Her history for the past fifteen years can best be described by a gif of Brian Michael Bendis shrugging with a smug smile on his face. Hopefully Robinson and Del Rey can pull Wanda back from the brink. That way I can go back and tell my self from 2011 that there’s going to be good “Scarlet Witch” and “Vision” comics. Then we’ll touch and explode like in Timecop.

    SCARLET WITCH #1
JAMES ROBINSON (w) • VANESA DEL REY (A)
    COVER BY DAVID AJA
HIP-HOP VARIANT COVER BY BILL SIENKIEWICZ
    MARVEL ‘92 VARIANT BY TBA
    VARIANT COVER BY KEVIN WADA

Witchcraft is broken – and the SCARLET WITCH is on a journey across the globe to fix it. From the back alleys of Manhattan, to the serene Greek Isles, to the bustling streets of Hong Kong, Wanda will have to face down her foes and find out who her true friends are. But as Wanda solves magical crimes and pieces witchcraft back together, the most important question remains: Who is the mastermind that broke it in the first place? Written by Eisner Award winner JAMES ROBINSON, with covers by Eisner Award winner DAVID AJA with the first issue drawn by fan-favorite VANESA DEL REY!

    7. A Transcript of Every Issue of “Starboard & Nightmask”

Admissions Director: So what happened at your last university before you transferred?

Starbrand: The Earth’s dying breaths caused me to accidentally kill everyone at my last university.

    Admissions Director: Excuse me?

Nightmask: I am literally three years old.

Admissions Director: I see. This is how I die.

    STARBRAND & NIGHTMASK #1
    GREG WEISMAN (w) • DOMO STANTON (a)
    Cover by YASMINE PUTRI
    Variant cover by Emanuela Lupacchino
    HIP-HOP VARIANT BY KERON GRANT
    YOUNG VARIANT BY SKOTTIE YOUNG

Two former Avengers with tremendous power – and almost zero life experience – are on their own, trying to find their place as HEROES, COSMIC ENTITIES and…COLLEGE STUDENTS? What meal plan will cover a cosmic metabolism? Can two all-powerful entities share a dorm room the size of roach motel? Can you safely teleport to Mars after partying all night long at your first kegger? Find out in Starbrand & Nightmask!
    32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

    6. Squadron Supreme’s Supreme Potential

There’s nothing I love more in comics than titles that follow up on each other. That’s why I’m looking forward to this comic that follows the consequences from when Namor killed a universe. Other aspects of this comic like Nighthawk and whatever a DP7 are don’t fall into my line range of interest, but I’m all for more appearances from genocidal Imperious Rex.

    SQUADRON SUPREME #1 & 2
They’re each the sole survivor of a lost Earth and they’ll do anything to protect this one, whether you like it or not. The Squadron Supreme — comprising Hyperion (Avengers), Nighthawk (Supreme Power), Dr. Spectrum (the Great Society), Blur (DP7) and Power Princess — are a team that doesn’t ask permission or what the rules are. To them all that matters is the safety of Earth and if you stand in the way…that’s your problem! Tell that to the Squadron’s first target — Namor, destroyer of Dr. Spectrum’s homeworld, who will have to pay for his crimes…but at what cost to the people of Atlantis.
    32 PGS. (each)/Rated T+ …$3.99 (each)
    JAMES ROBINSON (w) • LEONARD KIRK (a)
    CoverS by ALEX ROSS
ISSUE #1 – VARIANT Cover by LEONARD KIRK
HIP-HOP VARIANT BY MIKE DEL MUNDO
ACTION FIGURE VARIANT BY JOHN TYLER CHRISTOPHER
ISSUE #2 – VARIANT COVER BY LEONARD KIRK

    5. Cheap Pop

I wasn’t even going to feature this comic until I saw that Jason Latour and Jim Cheung are doing a back-up story where The Thing and Rocket Raccoon get into professional wrestling. Uh, yeah?? Why isn’t that the main feature? I need a whole storyline where Starlord’s celebrating a victory when Drax punches him in the head, tells him Kevin Feige and Marvel Studios turned him into a sellout, and declares that he’s the Best in the Galaxy. If only we could get someone to write that type of character for the main “Drax” title.

Also, “The Guardians 1000” should just be a farmer with a bow and two arrows.

    GUARDIANS OF INFINITY #1
DAN ABNETT & JASON LATOUR (w)
CARLO BARBERI & JIM CHEUNG (a)
    COVER BY JIM CHEUNG
    VARIANT COVER BY CARLO BARBERI
HIP-HOP VARIANT COVER BY MARCO RUDY
MARVEL ‘92 VARIANT BY Larry Stroman
    WHO ARE THE GUARDIANS 1000?!

Defending the galaxy is a good gig, but Drax isn’t thrilled with the combat hours (not enough of them) and Rocket isn’t thrilled with the compensation (not enough of it). They’re off on an adventure to supplement both, and Groot is happy to come along. But instead of the perks they want, they’re about to get more trouble than they can handle. Good thing the Guardians 3000 are on hand to help! But what about…THE GUARDIANS 1000??!!
Also in this issue, Latour and Cheung tell a one-off story of Ben Grimm and Rocket Raccoon, stuck on a planet where culture is based on Earth-style professional wrestling…but the stakes are life and death! THIS AIN’T KAYFABE, BROTHER!
    40 PGS./Rated T …$4.99

    4. Not The Hero We Asked For, Maybe The One We Need

This is unexpected. “Weirdworld” with Jason Aaron and Mike Del Mundo has been one of the better “Secret Wars” tie-ins, a manic and imaginative story that isn’t afraid to go all out. The post-“Secret Wars” reboot will instead follow a girl named Becca as she tries to escape Weirdworld. And honestly, that sounds pretty dope too. Especially if she just slowly morphs into Arkon as each issue goes on. I want to see Becca’s family open the door to find their daughter muscled up, caked in blood, and wearing a shitty helmet. Make that comic happen, Marvel.

    WEIRDWORLD #1
SAM HUMPHRIES (W) MIKE DEL MUNDO (A/C)
    HIP-HOP VARIANT BY JUAN DOE
    CLASSIC VARIANT BY TBA
Variant Cover by Matt Rhodes (Bioware)

    • From the pages of SECRET WARS, now in the ALL-NEW MARVEL U!
    • Imagine, being trapped in a world of sword and sorcery.
    • With no sword and sorcery experience to speak of.
    • This is the story of BECCA, a girl stuck in WEIRDWORLD, with only one mission: get home alive!
    • Marvel’s own twisted fantasy realm comes alive before your eyes! Barbarians! Wizards! And tricked out sports cars!
    32 PGS./Rated T …$3.99

    3. Man Without “Man Without Fear”

As much as we’ll all miss the Mark Waid and Chris Samnee’s latest run on “Daredevil”, the follow-up looks to have potential, especially in new sidekick “Blindspot” which is a pretty insensitive nickname all things considered. Frankly, I’m just intrigued to see how or if this title will incorporate the events from the end of the last “Daredevil” volume.

    DAREDEVIL #1 & 2
    CHARLES SOULE (w) • RON GARNEY (a/C)
ISSUE #1 – Action Figure Variant by JOHN TYLER CHRISTOPHER
    HIP-HOP VARIANT BY ALEX MALEEV
Marvel ’92 variant by Larry Stroman
    VARIANT COVER BY TIM SALE
    VARIANT COVER BY JOE QUESADA
    COSPLAY VARIANT ALSO AVAILABLE
ISSUE #2 – VARIANT COVER BY FRED HEMBECK
    VARIANT COVER BY TBA

Back in black and on his home turf, Daredevil begins again in New York City as a new enemy emerges. Meanwhile his alter ego, Matt Murdock, is on a new side of the law in the District Attorney’s office. Fighting crime in the shadows, prosecuting bad guys in the light, it’s a whole new chapter for our man without fear—including the arrival of the devil’s advocate. Welcome to Hell, Blindspot.
    32 PGS. (each)/Rated T+ …$3.99 (each)

    2. The Totally Right Person To Make The Hulk

My first thought regarding “The Totally Awesome Hulk” was that it would turn out to be Amadeus Cho. My second thought, once that was confirmed, was the word “absolutely” for two straight hours. Amadeus Cho is one of the best Marvel characters of the past decade and his math abilities would work ridiculously well with Hulk powers. Imagine him rampaging in a city, but calculating it so the debris would deliberately fall on his enemies and avoid civilians. Now if only the title wasn’t ripped from an old man’s notebook on what words he thinks millennials like.

    THE TOTALLY AWESOME HULK #1
    GREG PAK (w) • FRANK CHO (a/C)
    Variant cover by Frank Cho
    Variant cover by Woo Cheol
Hip-Hop variant cover by Mahmud Asrar
ACTION FIGURE VARIANT BY JOHN TYLER CHRISTOPHER
MARVEL ‘92 VARIANT BY DALE KEOWN

THERE’S A BRAND NEW HULK IN TOWN, AND HIS NAME IS AMADEUS CHO!
Get ready for the craziest Hulk story of the millennium as a kid genius decides he’s gonna be the best Hulk ever — and just possibly brings the entire Marvel Universe crashing down into chaos! Totally awesome beach day! Massive monster mayhem! She-Hulk and Lady Hellbender! Massive heart and ridiculous action brought to you by PLANET HULK writer Greg Pak and superstar artist Frank Cho! Is it possible for us to fit in one more exclamation point? YES!
    40 PGS./Rated T …$4.99

    1. A-Force For Good

Man, “A-Force” is going to be weird as hell when people are buying the trades for it a year from now. It started with an adventure in a Doom-dominated world (Doominated) before going back to the regular Marvel universe that had some of the Battleworld stuff too? Comics give me headaches. Still, the Battleworld “A-Force” title has been pretty good and I’m excited to see its proper debut post-“Secret Wars”. Hell, I’d be excited for any team that had Dazzler and Nico on it.

    A-FORCE #1
    G. WILLOW WILSON (w) • JORGE MOLINA (A/C)
    HIP-HOP VARIANT BY ADAM HUGHES
    Variant Cover by Victor Ibañez
MARVEL ‘92 VARIANT BY J. SCOTT CAMPBELL
    COSPLAY VARIANT ALSO AVAILABLE

A-FORCE, ASSEMBLE! From the ashes of Battleworld, Marvel’s newest hero SINGULARITY has risen and entered the Marvel Universe. But she didn’t make the journey alone. To combat the most fearsome threats from across the multiverse, Singularity will summon the world’s mightiest team of Avengers to her side: SHE-HULK. CAPTAIN MARVEL. DAZZLER. MEDUSA. NICO MINORU. Together, they are A FORCE to be reckoned with!
