What’s this? A Soliciting Multiversity: Image on a Tuesday? What madness is this? Basically, because DC waited until last night to release their Rebirth-focused solicitations, we’re bringing you our look at Image’s solicitations for June 2016 today! That does mean you’ll have to wait a little bit longer to see Brian’s thoughts on Rebirth, but it’ll be worth the wait.

June is quite the bumper month for Image. Lots of titles are returning with new story arcs, some miniseries are wrapping up and there’s a couple of interesting series debuts. Let’s dive in, shall we?

10. “Thief Of Thieves” Returns!

Y’know, I’ve never actually read “Thief Of Thieves” (should I have?), but it wasn’t until seeing this solicit that I realised I hadn’t noticed it in previous solicitations for a while. I think I might have even thought the series was over? Who knows, but it’s back now for all you who were reading the series.

Seriously, though, let me know if it’s worth checking out.

THIEF OF THIEVES #32
STORY: ANDY DIGGLE
ART / COVER: SHAWN MARTINBROUGH & ADRIANO LUCAS
JUNE 22 / 32 PAGES / FC / M / $2.99
NEW STORY ARC

Conrad has been the undisputed thief of thieves throughout the world… until now. Who are his rivals? Does he have what it takes to outfox them in his most thrilling heist yet?

9. “Rumble”… Is Also Back!

I love “Rumble”. John Arcudi, James Harren and Dave Stewart are amazing and I’m so happy to see the series return for its third arc. This is an inventive and emotionally focused fantasy that deftly blends amazing worldbuilding with well actualised characters that make you actually care.

If you’re not reading the series, you definitely should be.

RUMBLE #11
STORY: JOHN ARCUDI
ART: JAMES HARREN & DAVE STEWART
COVER A: JAMES HARREN
COVER B: ANDREW MacLEAN
JUNE 22 / 32 PAGES / FC / M / $3.50
NEW STORY ARC

RUMBLE returns for its third arc! Bobby and Rathraq learn that life and death aren’t what they used to be!

8. “Paper Girls”… To The Future!

I worry a little that this solicit is a little spoiler-y cause I’m behind on “Paper Girls” (along with like every other comic in existence), but I think it’s really interesting that after one arc Vaughn and Chiang are pretty much throwing out everything you think you knew about “Paper Girls” and going somewhere completely different with it. That’s the kind of comics I like.

PAPER GIRLS #6
STORY: BRIAN K. VAUGHAN
ART / COVER: CLIFF CHIANG
COLORS: MATT WILSON
JUNE 1 / 32 PAGES / FC / T+ / $2.99
NEW STORY ARC!

The smash-hit ongoing series returns with a bold new direction, as Erin, Mac, and Tiffany find themselves launched from 1988 to a distant and terrifying future.

7. Not To Be Confused With “Pencil Head”

I’ve never heard of “Carbon Grey” before so I’ve no idea why it’s getting an omnibus collection, but the solicit mentions wars, prophecies, warrior sisters and that cover looks amazing.

So that’s pretty much all I have to add here, but I’m thinking about checking this one out? Anyone got any experience with this one? Is it as good as it sounds?

CARBON GREY OMNIBUS COLLECTION TP
STORY: PAUL GARDNER & HOANG NGUYEN
ART: KHARI EVANS, HOANG NGUYEN & KINSUN LOH
COVER: HOANG NGUYEN, KHARI EVANS & KINSUN LOH
JUNE 1 / 304 PAGES / FC / T+
$24.99
“LEGEND OF THE GREYS”

The Sisters Grey are warriors, sworn to protect their Kaiser. But as a great war rages, the Kaiser is found dead, and one sister — Giselle Grey — is accused of his murder. Pursued by enemies, Giselle must unravel the prophecy of the Carbon Grey — before history itself unravels. This collection includes all three volumes of the epic saga, stories from CARBON GREY: ORIGINS, and a new ten-page prologue.

6. RIP In Peace, “Roche Limit”

And so, “Roche Limit” comes to an end. I really loved this story as I feel like writer Michael Moreci managed to blend some gritty sci-fi settings, especially in the first miniseries, with some existential elements in the story that makes the science fiction feel pretty unique. I mean, I, for one, never expected this series to be about souls.

ROCHE LIMIT: MONADIC #4 (OF 4)
STORY: MICHAEL MORECI
ART / COVER: KYLE CHARLES
JUNE 29 / 32 PAGES / FC / M / $3.99
MINISERIES CONCLUSION

This final issue of ROCHE LIMIT brings the acclaimed, existential, mind-bending saga to a close. But not before some crazy sh*t goes down! Can humanity be saved and the Black Sun stopped once and for all?

5. The Month Of Returns Continues

“Casanova” Is Back! Y’know, I was recently thinking “What’s Matt Fraction up to these days?” and I should have remembered that “Casanova: Acedia” was a thing. I’m not caught up on the series, sadly, I’ve only read the first miniseries, but I’m very glad that it’s back. Can’t wait to catch up with it.

CASANOVA: ACEDIA #5
STORY: MATT FRACTION & MICHAEL CHABON
ART / COVER: FÁBIO MOON & GABRIEL BÁ
JUNE 1 / 32 PAGES / FC / M / $3.99
NEW STORY ARC

The world-melting CASANOVA returns. Casanova Quinn doesn’t remember who he is or how he got here — the only thing he knows is an awful lot of people want him dead and the world might be ending. Psychedelic, sexy, and surreal science-fiction the way only comics can do it.

4. Frank Quitely Returns!

Yeah, the only thing that matters here is Frank Quitely. The solicit can talk about how much the original “Jupiter’s Legacy” sold, but if anyone bought it for Mark Millar’s writing of yet more superheroes they’re lying to themselves. You only read the original series for Frank Quitely and you’re only going to read this one for Frank Quitely. It’s better if you just admit it now.

JUPITER’S LEGACY VOL. 2 # 1 (OF 5) – GEM OF THE MONTH
STORY: MARK MILLAR
ART: FRANK QUITELY & PETER DOHERTY
COVER A: FRANK QUITELY
COVER B: JAE LEE
COVER C: MIKE MAYHEW
COVER D: BLANK COVER EDITION
COVER E: FRANK QUITELY SKETCH VARIANT
JUNE 29 / 32 PAGES / FC / M / $3.99

IT’S HERE! The sequel to industry sales-beast JUPITER’S LEGACY is back and it boasts monthly FRANK QUITELY! Superhero offspring Hutch and Chloe have come out of hiding with son Jason to assemble a team of super-crooks from around the globe.

3. Them Ink Washes Tho

There’s honestly a part of me that feels like printing “Injection” without Jordie Bellaire’s colours feels like some kind of crime against comics. Like, sure, I want to see Declan Shalvey’s ink washes in the larger print format as much as anyone, but I just feel weird about seeing “Injection” pages without Bellaire’s colours.

IMAGE GIANT-SIZED ARTIST’S PROOF EDITION: INJECTION #1
STORY: WARREN ELLIS
ART / COVER: DECLAN SHALVEY
JUNE 29 / 32 PAGES / BW / M / $24.99

The all-new IMAGE GIANT-SIZED ARTIST’S PROOF EDITION series presents special artistic achievements in their raw form in an oversized format. DECLAN SHALVEY’s atmospheric line art from INJECTION #1 is presented in glorious black-and-white inks with ink-washes at 11″ X 17″. Also includes a full size cover gallery.

2. Long, Dark Tea-Time Of The Soul

Despite much of the controversy surrounding Howard Chaykin, I still have to admire him as a storyteller. Or, at least, I do whenever he’s not making a “Black Kiss” comic, but that’s a whole other thing. Still, this sounds like it could be an interesting read and I’ve been hankering for a Howard Chaykin comic in my life ever since “Satellite Sam” ended.

MIDNIGHT OF THE SOUL #1 (OF 5) – GEM OF THE MONTH
STORY / ART / COVER: HOWARD CHAYKIN
JUNE 8 / 32 PAGES / FC / M / $3.50

It’s 1950, and Joel Breakstone, former GI and liberator of Auschwitz, is seriously damaged goods. He hasn’t exhaled a sober breath in five years — until the sheltered life he’s created for himself unravels and he begins the long night that will change his life forever.

1. Not To Be Confused With “She-Hulk”

Rich Tommaso’s “Dark Corridor” introduced me to his work and his unique style of crime and noir comics, so I’m very interested to see what he does with a horror story. Especially one that’s about werewolves because, honestly, I love me a good werewolf story.

This sounds really cool, keep an eye on this one.

SHE WOLF #1
STORY / ART / COVER: RICH TOMMASO
JUNE 22 / 24 PAGES / FC / M / $3.99

SHE WOLF is a surreal exploration in horror as the story follows a teenage girl who believes she’s been bitten by a savage werewolf. Soon after she begins to experience feverish nightmares that seamlessly bleed into her everyday reality.

Sworn to protect a world that hates and fears her, Alice W. Castle is a trans femme writing about comics. All things considered, it’s going surprisingly well.
