We’re wrapping up our look at July’s solicits today with a peek at what’s coming from Marvel in July. I hope you guys like ominous solicits!

For the full solicits from Marvel, click right here.

Robot Avengers, Assemble!

We covered this when it was announced, but coming out of “Age of Ultron” is a book starring a bunch of artificial intelligence Avengers like the Vision. Humphries is a very creative storyteller and Araujo just showed off some of his chops in the “Fantastic Four” AU tie-in, so if you like robots then I’ve got some good news for you.

A Mighty Hunger

Ominously teased and relatively foreboding, apparently something that likes the color purple is hungry. Most folks are guessing Galactus, but you know what? I’m going to go out there: it’s Marvel’s new Purplethulu, a purple Cthulhu that has been under the sea all this time. Oh, and is a robot.

AGE OF ULTRON #10 U.C.
CLASSIFIED (W) • CLASSIFIED (A/C)
32 PGS./One-Shot/Rated T+ …$3.99

Infinite No More

Marvel’s Infinite Comics starring the Guardians of the Galaxy are being collected into this one-shot with art by Ming Doyle. The Infinite Comics have been pretty great, perhaps even better than the series they spin out of, but that’s what happens when you get folks like Ming Doyle to illustrate your comics!

Which is my way of saying, buy this for the Ming Doyle Rocket Raccoon story.

Gearing Up for Infinity

We are all set for “Infinity” to be Marvel’s next big thing to get mixed critical reviews on the internet as half of the comic fanbase rejoices Hickman’s brilliance while the other half laments events. However, as we get closer to it, it’s important to note that “Avengers” (co-written with Nick Spencer) and “New Avengers” will be making a heavy push with preludes to “Infinity.”

The Future of Captain Marvel

This is it! July brings the finale of ‘The Enemy Within,’ a crossover between Kelly Sue’s two Avengers titles with a heavy focus on good ol’ Captain Marvel. I’m more excited about this than “Infinity,” truth be told, but I will note that I am a wee bit nervous about Carol’s future. She’s one of those characters that very quickly earned a special place in most reader’s hearts; I’d hate for there not to be a “Captain Marvel” #15, which I think is a fear most readers of this title have.

Zeb Wells and Paco Medina Take Over Nova

Here’s a thing: Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness’ “Nova” is one of the most exciting new Marvel books. Weird, right? After a critically demolished book like “Hulk” or “Avengers: X-Sanction,” you’d think that there’d be no more of there collaborations from Marvel… and yet, here we are with the best one yet. So I’m sad that they’re leaving the book with issue #5.

But, Zeb Wells and Paco Medina? Even better. I was highly skeptical of a new Nova series with Marvel NOW!, but I’ll happily admit that this is easily one of the best new books they’re putting out. If you’re into Marvel’s cape comics, get excited for July.

NOVA #6
ZEB WELLS (W) • PACO MEDINA (A)
Cover by ED MCGUINNESS
• Now that we’ve seen his origin, there’s only one thing standing between Nova and being an Avenger…
• He needs to ask his mom.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

Kieron Gillen vs “Journey into Mystery” Fans

I was thinking about “Journey into Mystery” today as I listened to a Sigur Ros record, and I thought, “I wonder if Kieron will ever do anything like that again?”

And then I read the solicit for “Young Avengers” #8.

You can almost hear tumblr screaming “GILLLLEEENNN!!!!!!” now.

YOUNG AVENGERS #7 & 8
KIERON GILLEN (W)
JAMIE MCKELVIE (A/C)
ISSUE #7
• Three months have passed for the Young Avengers. What have they been up to? Fun stuff, I’ll bet. The sort of “stuff” that makes an excellent super hero comic. THIS IS TRUTH WITH A CAPITAL EVERYTHING.
• A very important breakfast. A new Young Avenger. A selection of emotions.
• Oh – I bet you thought we forgot about those Skrulls from issue 1. We haven’t.
ISSUE #8
• The Young Avengers desperately race across the multiverse. Nothing can stop their pursuit of their missing friend. Except the urge to stop and take photos, obv.
• Lots of cleverly hidden exposition.
• Kieron decides it’s time to make all the JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY readers scream.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

Fialkov Kills the Ultimates

Continued below

There’s this little rumor, one that was quickly dashed down, that Marvel was going to destroy their Ultimate universe. It would certainly make sense; as good as “Ultimate Spider-Man” else, everything else has fallen apart. Brian Wood is definitely picking up “Ultimate X-Men,” but this last big crossover the books had is weighing heavily on the future of the titles, with the Ultimate universe barely resembling what it was when it was originally launched, existing somewhat as a failed experiment.

Now, Sam Humphries leaves “Ultimates” for Joshua Hale Fialkov, and the first thing Fialkov does is an arc called “Disassembled.” And he kills some character. And the end of the Ultimates is NIGH!

Well, maybe that rumor wasn’t all the way off?

Charles Soule is a Thunderbolt

Charles Soule is the new “get ’em!” guy in comics, apparently, after picking up “Swamp Thing” from Scott Snyder and now taking over for Daniel Way on “Thunderbolts.” Did Soule sell his soul to the comics devil? I don’t know, but I’m excited to see what he brings to the table for Marvel’s silliest Expendables-esque book.

Maybe the Best Deadpool Story Ever?

“Deadpool” has been one of those books I actively have avoided for some time now, having read the Joe Kelly run as a young comic collector and never finding myself able to move beyond that particular interpretation of the character. As much as I like both Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn, I’ve avoided their new series for fear of being a jaded reader.

But, uh, this solicit/cover is kind of hilarious. And I think maybe I might catch up.

DEADPOOL #13
GERRY DUGGAN & BRIAN POSEHN (W)
SCOTT KOBLISH (A)
Cover by KRIS ANKA
• Another “lost” Deadpool issue…this one from the ’70s!
• Deadpool hits the streets with Power Man & Iron Fist!
32 PGS./Parental Advisory …$2.99

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
