Apologies for the mysterious opening. We realize that, in this day and age of spoilers, sometimes things get ruined before you have the chance to read them yourselves. It’s just one of the unfortunate things about life.

But we care about you. And we care about your right to not have things spoiled.

We’ve done extensively thought out and researched Speculation Centrals in the past, but this one is a quicky as we wait for Marvel’s announcement later today (3PM EST, to be exact). Now we’re just going to give you an image and ask you a question.

But it’s a spoiler. Specifically, it’s a spoiler for an “unannounced” book from last week’s New Avengers Annual.

Take a look behind the cut for more.

In the above image, Wonder Man’s Revengers stand victorious over the defeated New Avengers, after giving the team a rather massive thrashing. The image reveals that, assumedly come December, there will be an Avengers Annual from Brian Bendis and Dell’Otto (which was casually mentioned in a CBR interview in August) focusing on Wonder Man’s Revengers battling against the Avengers in a two-part storyline.

But what else do we know? Oh. Right. An upcoming arc in New Avengers sees Norman Osborn reforming the Dark Avengers for a story called “The HAMMER War,” as announced during one of Marvel’s Next Big Thing conferences.

Hmm. I guess we can end with this quote, from the previously linked CBR interview:

With two very powerful enemies gunning for them, the remainder of 2011 is going to be a big time for “New Avengers,” all of which sets the stage for an even bigger storyline set to run in the spring and summer of 2012. “I don’t know if you heard, but there’s an Avengers movie coming out,” Bendis said with a laugh, “A very big movie starring very big movie stars, and Marvel has asked me to think about what I could do to capitalize on that. I have quite a few things on my plate, including some things that haven’t been announced yet. Some of these things are going to be very exciting for a lot of people. We’re going to break some molds. We’re going to do things very differently coming up through the spring and summer. The fallout of the H.A.M.M.E.R. story is going to set up a great deal of what is coming forward; a season that I see as the Summer of the Avengers.”

What was that teaser again?

Oh, right! The Avengers in a crosshair. So, it’s kind of like the world against the Avengers, huh? World War Avengers?

Summer of the Avengers indeed.

Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
