The fourth day of our March Madness tourney, called The Tweet Off, arrives. We’re figuring out who the best comic person is on Twitter, and we’re going to have the highly scientific method of ranking our 32 favorites by Twitter followers, and then having you the reader vote alongside both of us to decide each winner. Both Matt and David will be voting as well, with each day’s winners being announced the next day. The winner gets our love and adoration, and gets to move on to the next round. Lucky them.
Let’s get to the match-ups.

(1) Joe Hill (@Joe_Hill) vs. (8) James Robinson (@JamesDRobinson)
Followers: 168,962 for Hill, 3,817 for Robinson
Their Work: Joe Hill is a novelist, co-creator and writer of one of the absolute best books in comics in the form of Locke & Key, as well as being the son of Stephen King. He’s one of the most talented guys around, and his gift for thoughtful horror is extraordinary. James Robinson is the writer of Earth 2 and the guy who made Starman one of the best books DC has released in the last 30 years. He’s also really, really strange on Twitter, fairly often. But fun to read!

(2) Bryan Lee O’Malley (@radiomaru) vs. (7) Jim Zubkavich (@JimZub)
Followers: 74,064 for O’Malley, 4,690 for Zubkavich
Their Work: Bryan Lee O’Malley created a book you might have heard of. Scott Pilgrim? Yeah. That one. He’s working on a follow-up called Seconds and is one of the strangest and most entertaining Twitter presences in comics. Jim Zub is the creator of Skullkickers, amongst other things, and he’s also one of the coolest guys around, especially considering how he helps give those looking to break in to the industry a look of the realities of the situation in thoughtful pieces on his site.

(3) Matt Fraction (@MattFraction) vs. (6) Ivan Brandon (@IvanBrandon)
Followers: 38,120 for Fraction, 7,561 for Brandon
Their Work: Matt Fraction created Hobo Darkseid (aka Darkseid Jenkins). Nothing else needs to be said (he also does Casanova, Hawkeye, FF and all kinds of other awesome things). Ivan Brandon has written for all kinds of publishers – very well I might add – but since has taken it upon himself to create his own house that creates comics like he wants them to be created. It’s called Offset Comics, and you should watch out for it.

(4) Becky Cloonan (@BeckyCloonan) vs. (5) Francesco Francavilla (@f_francavilla)
Followers: 19,673 for Cloonan, 9,978 for Francavilla
Their Work: Becky Cloonan is one of the best artists in the industry, having broken in with amazing books like Demo, and now succeeding greatly by putting out a mix of her own works (self-published) like The Mire and the upcoming Demeter and working on super high profile books like Batman. She’s pretty much amazing all together. Meanwhile, Francavilla also is known for drawing Batman as well as covers for damn near everything, and he’s currently releasing his own character – The Black Beetle – through Dark Horse Comics. He’ll also be working on Hawkeye AND he’s pretty much the best ever at emoticons.
