The third day of our March Madness tourney, called The Tweet Off, arrives. We’re figuring out who the best comic person is on Twitter, and we’re going to have the highly scientific method of ranking our 32 favorites by Twitter followers, and then having you the reader vote alongside both of us to decide each winner. Both Matt and David will be voting as well, with each day’s winners being announced the next day. The winner gets our love and adoration, and gets to move on to the next round. Lucky them.

Let’s get to the match-ups.

(1) Warren Ellis (@WarrenEllis) vs. (8) Jordie Bellaire (@WhoaJordie)

Followers: 493,567 for Ellis, 3,708 for Bellaire

Their Work: Warren Ellis is the comic book futurist, one of the brightest guys in the industry, and the creator of Planetary, Nextwave, The Authority, Transmetropolitan, and an array of other books. He’s also a novelist, and not a member of Nick Cave’s band. Jordie Bellaire is the bee’s knees, maybe the most prolific colorist around today, and a wicked talented one at that. Everybody loves Jordie!

(2) Kate Beaton (@Beatonna) vs. (7) Rob Guillory (@Rob_Guillory)

Followers: 65,624 for Beaton, 5,852 for Guillory

Their Work: Beaton is a bit of a wunderkind, selling tons and tons of the Hark! A Vagrant print collection, getting tons of traffic to read that comic online, and being all in all the comic book belle of the ball. Rob Guillory is the artist of Eisner/Harvey dominating Image series Chew, and he’s full of himself and doesn’t know what’s what. Or maybe he does.

(3) Gail Simone (@GailSimone) vs. (6) Fred Van Lente (@FredVanLente)

Followers: 34,339 for Simone, 7,673 for Van Lente

Their Work: Simone is the writer of Batgirl and the upcoming The Movement from DC, as well as Red Sonja from Dynamite, she’s also one of the most adept people on social media in the industry. She’s also an epic badass who manages to bend the world to her will, like she does! Fred Van Lente writes Archer & Armstrong, G.I. Joe and helped accidentally create a meme by making Hercules an epic pimp/badass himself. He is also hilarious.

(4) Kelly Sue DeConnick (@KellySue) vs. (5) Ryan Ottley (@RyanOttley)

Followers: 14,604 for DeConnick, 9,978 for Ottley

Their Work: Kelly Sue isn’t just the writer of Captain Marvel and Avengers Assemble from Marvel and Pretty Deadly from Image, she’s also an incredibly bright person who effectively leverages social media (Tumblr!) to bring her books more eyes and love. Oh, she’s also one half of another epic comic power couple, with her husband Matt Fraction. Ryan Ottley is one of the best artists in comics today, bringing the insane things Robert Kirkman asks him to draw each month to life in Invincible with expert skill and incredible power.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
