Multiversity Comics turns a year old today, and I really wanted to say thanks to everyone for supporting us over the past year. I wanted to give a flashback on what some of the highlights of the past year have been, giving us some lists in a number of categories to give everyone a look as to what the biggest and best have been from our first year. This way you can catch up on any and all of the lore that Multiversity has picked up, as well as anything we may have turned into a joke over the year. Check it out after the jump for the greatest hits and misses from our first year.

Most Commented Post
1. Comic Books, Twitter and You

This was the post that really first got us attention from comic fans of the world, and it was quite early in our development. Matt developed a list of the Twitter user names of tons of creators, publishers, and pundits of the comic industry and posted it on our site. It was pretty popular, and it became way more popular when we got RT’s from Geoff Johns, Brian Michael Bendis, Agent_M, MTV Splash Page, and a lot more. Next thing you know Matt’s email inbox and our comments pages were pretty much exclusively people wanting to be added to the list. It was a crazy and really exciting day.

Highest Rated Comic

1. Brave and the Bold #33 (Perfect 10)

In the time since we launched a full scale, numeric based scoring system, J. Michael Straczynski and Cliff Chiang’s Wonder Woman, Barbara Gordon and Zatanna centric issue of Brave and the Bold that just came out a few weeks ago has been the only comic to earn a perfect rating of ten, and it came from Matt, founder and EIC of Multiversity Comics. This of course led to me being called a naysayer on our audio podcast Spoiler Alert, but hey, to each their own!

Fun fact, every highest rated review came from either Matt or myself. Either we love great comics or we’re softies. One of the two.

Lowest Rated Comics

1. World War Hulks #1 (1.0)

Directly from Matt’s review (he had the highest and lowest review): “To quote George Oscar Bluth, “I’ve made a huge mistake.” What mistake is that? Actually picking this up. Good God, I know I read a lot of comics and that they aren’t all A-list comics, but I don’t think any of them are as bad as this… and for whatever reason, I actually had hopes.”

Ouch.

Note about this category…two people dominated this category: The Hulk and Brandon Burpee.

First Interviews
I want to give a special thanks to all of these creators – we were total newbies and had never interviewed anyone, yet they worked with us. Much love to all of them, especially considering it was mostly me and I probably sucked. My bad! We’ll be better next time I swear!

Five Best Brandon Burpee Moments
I think it’s fair to say that my fellow Alaskan Brandon Burpee has turned out to be the most irreverent and perhaps bizarre of all of the MC writers. His reviews are typically highlighted by some straight up odd decisions, and he typically can be counted on for the weirdest entries into the collaborative articles. Here are some good examples.

1. The Lost Episode of 4 Color News and Brews

As many of you know, we film a weekly video podcast series here called 4 Color News & Brews. It’s called that because we talk about comics and drink, naturally. Our first attempt was…not successful, as Burpee got astonishingly tanked and managed to make Matt’s decade in the process (the phrase “tie tie” immediately made it into every writer’s lexicon immediately). It was perhaps the most glorious shit show that has ever existed.

2. Secret Avengers Speculation

While Matt, Gil and I took this article relatively seriously, Brandon managed to turn the entire exercise into a joke about how Secret Avengers was going to be the way Marvel started inserting Disney characters (or not so Disney characters…Mega Man anyone?) into their regular universe. Given that we didn’t see it until the article was up, it was surprising and hilarious.

3. His review for JLA: Cry for Justice #7

Closing lines: “If I could wrap this up and leave you with one thing it would be this. $3.99 x 7 issues = INJustice.

Rating: 3.9 — NO”

4. His Robust Analysis of Secret Six #19

Entire review: “One word…AWESOME!

Final Verdict: 8.5 – Buy”
