Web Comic Spotlight: Cat Versus Human

I’ve been pretty open and notorious about my natural shying away from web comics. I like strips I can just randomly jump into and find humor in without a big deal of background knowledge. Long scale stories are things I like reading in print, although there are a few exceptions to the role. This is a preference that I share with Newsarama writer Jill Pantozzi, writer of “Hey, That’s My Cape!” In her most recent column, she shined the spotlight on two comics that feature my other favorite thing besides comics: cats!

It’s through this that I found the adorable online comic strip “cat versus human.” The comic is the brainchild of Yasmine Surovec, a comic and cat lover much like yours truly. What started in June of this year already has a decent following, and it’s really no surprise. Each little comic follows the adventures of nameless characters and kittens, all of whom lay out various humorous examples of what living with a cat is like. The comic is filled with various truisms to the ownership of cats, with little anecdotes and situations that feel all too familiar as someone who comes home to two rascals every day (and it certainly helps that her illustrated kittens look exactly like mine!). The strips also feature little after-the-fact jokes much like xkcd, but instead of being science/nerd/geek jokes, it’s all based around cats!

Of course, for those of who you aren’t cat owners, the comic might ring a little less true. The comics still stand on their own as humorous insights into the every day life of living with these crazy little critters. If I didn’t live with two already, I’d want to go out and find one as soon as possible just from reading this strip. Surovec has an adorable art style that makes her work very fun to read and look at, and her animated cats are beyond cute. You’ll be “aww”ing a-plenty whilst reading this comic.

So what are you wait for? Give it a look! You can find all the kitty goodness over at catversushuman, and be sure to check back as it is updated sporadically.

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."

    Web Comic Spotlight: SMASH!

    By | Feb 8, 2010 | Columns

Webcomics aren’t exactly my thing. I don’t know, but in general they’ve never really clicked for me. I’m always looking for little comics and humorous things I can read, but I’ve never become attached to any comics that I can follow online with a regular basis like I do the comics I go and pick […]
