A few months ago, DC announced that all of their April New 52 covers would be “WTF Certified” – in English, that means gatefold covers that revealed shocking/surprising/secret characters and events on their hidden side. We decided to investigate each cover and share with you, the Multiversity reader, just how shocking or game changing each cover is. This is “What the Friday?: Week Four.”

What was the surprise? Booster Gold shows up!
Is it truly surprising? Since he technically showed up last month, not so much.
Does it make sense, in story? Actually, yes, and it is a great way to use Booster.
Does this make me want to read the next issue? I love me some Booster, so yes.

What was the surprise? Batman becomes a Man-Bat!
Is it truly surprising? It is more surprising that Azrael is part of the New 52.
Does it make sense, in story? Yes
Does this make me want to read the next issue? It is the sort of crazy, Silver Age Batman that I love. Yes.

What was the surprise? The Mad Hatter is around?
Is it truly surprising? He’s been the star of the last arc, not at all. Much more surprising was the fact that the great Syzmon Kudranski did the art and not the solicited Ethan Van Sciver.
Does it make sense, in story? Yes, since he’s been around.
Does this make me want to read the next issue? No sir.

What was the surprise? The Reverse Flash!
Is it truly surprising? Not if you read solicits
Does it make sense, in story? To be fair, he appears in the final panel of the book, as a tease for next month, so I suppose so?
Does this make me want to read the next issue? Yes, if only because I truly believe it is Wally West.

What was the surprise? Lucifer will cast judgement on Andrew and Cain!
Is it truly surprising? Not really
Does it make sense, in story? Yes
Does this make me want to read the next issue? Cancelled 🙁

What was the surprise? Swamp Thing shows up!
Is it truly surprising? Not really
Does it make sense, in story? Yes
Does this make me want to read the next issue? Not because of that – because this is the best Justice League book on the market.

What was the surprise? The Creeper!
Is it truly surprising? Yes
Does it make sense, in story? Sort of – he was on one page, so it is hard to tell how integrated he will be.
Does this make me want to read the next issue? I love the Creeper, so sure.

What was the surprise? Red Lanterns will kill Atrocitus!
Is it truly surprising? If it actually happened, yes (but it didn’t)
Does it make sense, in story? Yes
Does this make me want to read the next issue? If only to see how Milligan wraps up his run, and get ready for Charles Soule.

What was the surprise? Blockbuster shows up!
Is it truly surprising? It would’ve been far more surprising if a Blockbuster video opened in the New 52
Does it make sense, in story? I guess, but who cares about Blockbuster?
Does this make me want to read the next issue? Not in the slightest.

What was the surprise? Orion!
Is it truly surprising? Since he showed up last month, no!
Does it make sense, in story? Sort of!
Does this make me want to read the next issue? No!

What was the surprise? Bane!
Is it truly surprising? Not really – especially since he was shown going after Talons in “Detective Comics” #19
Does it make sense, in story? Sure
Does this make me want to read the next issue? Nope

What was the surprise? Trigon, Beast Boy and Raven appear!
Is it truly surprising? Not really; those are characters that make total sense to show up, especially with “The Ravagers” ending
Does it make sense, in story? Yes
Does this make me want to read the next issue? Not really – I love these characters, I hate what Scott Lobdell and co. have done to them
See you next week for the final 2!
