X-Men: Apocalypse Screenwriter Suggests Film is Last of “First Class Trilogy”, May Introduce Cable, Scarlet Witch, and More

More details about 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse are pouring in. After this week’s (not at all shocking) announcement that Bryan Singer would return to direct the follow up to this year’s Days of Future Past, Yahoo had an interview with screenwriter Simon Kinberg with some revealing answers about the next installment of the X-Men franchise, the video of which can be seen here

The video’s worth watching for fans of the franchise, but Kinberg lets out some key tidbits of information. For one, he notes that Apocalypse serves as a conclusion to a trilogy set ups ith First Class and Days of Future Past. Though those words sound sort of final, they don’t necessarily spell an imminent end for the franchise. I mean, it’s also a film series that makes hundreds of millions of dollars. It’s not going to die anytime soon.

No, after referencing the end of the First Class trilogy, Kinberg mentions that characters like Cable, Psylocke, and Scarlet Witch could appear. When talking about Psylocke, Kinberg said the following:

[Psylocke] has a cool power. I know Bryan thinks she’s a neat character so there’s certainly a chance she’ll be in an X-Men movie some day. Hopefully there’ll be a lot of X-Men movies and there’s lot of mutants we’re yet to fully explore onscreen, even if they’ve had cameos before. Now we’re making more films there’s a chance to dig deeper.

Yeah, we’re getting more X-Men movies beyond Apocalypse. And from the sounds of it we’re likely looking at X-Men films with different mutants than what we’ve seen. This could work out really well considering the breadth of X-Men characters that exist, though it’ll definitely feel crazy to live in a world where Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are both members of different movie franchises. Though since Pietro had a little sister show up in Days of Future Past, there’s a chance this is already the case.

Beyond Cable, Psyclocke, and Scarlet Witch are there any other X-characters you’d want to see take away the spotlight from Professor X, Magneto, and Mystique? Could Maggott get his chance in the limelight ten years from now? We honestly don’t know since Apocalypse, let alone the other X-Men films, are years away from release.

We do know that if you are a Fox executive reading Multiversity Comics in between going over the latest draft of the inevitable X-Statix screenplay, my contact information can be found at the bottom of this article. This is not a joke.
