– Dark Horse Comics have announced the first issue of Frank Miller’s “Xerxes: The Fall of the House of Darius and the Rise of Alexander” will be released on April 4. The five issue series will expand on Miller’s fantasy version of the Peloponnesian War from “300,” taking us from the reign of Persian king Xerxes I (486 – 465 BC) to that of Alexander the Great (336 – 323 BC).
– John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are in talks to direct The Flash: Flashpoint. Daley and Goldstein previously directed the 2015 Vacation reboot and the upcoming comedy Game Night, out February 23; they also wrote Spider-Man: Homecoming. Flashpoint, which will star Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, does not have a confirmed release date.
– Former Wildstorm president John Nee has been appointed the new publisher of Marvel Comics, succeeding Dan Buckley, who was promoted to President of Marvel Entertainment last year.
– Marvel also announced David Baldeon (“Spirits of Vengeance”) will pencil the “Domino” ongoing written by Gail Simone. The first issue is out April 11, and in the meantime you can check out the cover with the character’s new costume here.
– Amazon Studios released the trailer for Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot, a biographical film starring Joaquin Phoenix as quadriplegic cartoonist John Callahan. The film, which is directed by Gus Van Sant, is out May 11.
– Publisher Source Point Press will make their debut in the February issue of Previews, soliciting three titles for April. They also announced a partnership with Andy Schmidt’s workshop company Comics Experience, debuting four titles from new creators at C2E2 on April 6.
– Last week, screenwriter David S. Goyer (Batman Begins, Man of Steel) told Rotten Tomatoes he was planning to co-write the big screen version of The Sandman with author Neil Gaiman. “The plan is that I would actually write that with Neil, so we’re trying to align our insane schedules,” he said. Gaiman is currently preoccupied with season 2 of American Gods and the Amazon version of Good Omens, while Goyer’s new show, Krypton, premieres March 21.
– Syfy Wire have a feature on Condorito: The Movie, which saw a limited US release on Friday. The CG animated film from Peru was based on a comic strip created in 1949 by Chilean artist René “Pepo” Ríos, and stars an anthromorphic condor (whose name just means “Little Condor” in Spanish).
– Wonder Woman and Logan have been placed on the USC Scripter Awards’ shortlist for Best Film Screenplay of 2017. The awards are held on February 10.
– Finally, the New York Post has an interview with fashion designer Josh Bennett, who partnered with Marvel to create a cardigan line for Thor: Ragnarok, and is now planning one for next month’s Black Panther.
