Arriving in our inboxes moments ago, the above teaser seems to imply that Gambit – the popular cajun card-player from the X-Men – is going to be getting his own book.

Gambit has always been one of the more popular X-Men characters at Marvel. Fans petitioned for the character to make it into the movies (which he eventually did), and he’s had his own ongoing several times in the past. Now he’s made a major resurgence in the comics, starting with his leading role in Mike Carey’s “X-Men Legacy” alongside Rogue and moving in to “X-23” by Marjorie Liu. He currently resides in “Astonishing X-Men” by Liu and “X-Men Legacy” again, this time by Christos Gage — but who is going to handle his new solo book? Our first guess would be Marjorie Liu, but that just comes from circumstantial evidence and her obvious affection towards the character.

Whether or not the character can hold his own in an ongoing in today’s comic climate is debatable, so whether this is an ongoing or a mini is up for debate. Either way, the full details will be revealed this weekend at C2E2.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
