In addition to that Teen Titans Annual as well as the Animal Man Annual previously announced, DC has announced on the Source blog that they will also be releasing a Batman annual (only eight months after its New 52 debut) with a giant-sized 48-page comic starring everyone’s favorite Dark Knight.
Unlike the other two, which are preludes to crossovers, the Batman Annual will instead introduce Mr. Freeze traditionally to the DCnU. Mr. Freeze did appear in Snyder’s Batman #1, so one would assume that this issue will deal more with the history of Freeze rather than his current need for an introduction. It will also reveal, in part, Mr. Freeze’s relation to the Court of Owls, the group that is causing so much distress for Batman and his friends (especially in the upcoming “Night of the Owls” storyline). As Snyder puts it, “This will be tale that really digs into Freeze’s psyche, explaining his connection to the Court of Owls in the present, and exploring dark secrets about his past.”
The issue will be written by Snyder and the co-writer of the Batman back-ups, James Tynion IV, and will be illustrated by Jay Fabok, and will see release in May.
