In news that will certainly make Rob Liefeld’s day, everyone’s favorite Merc with a Mouth is getting a movie. For real. There is an actual “Deadpool” movie coming from Fox, and it’s set for release February 12th of 2016. Whether or not it will involve Ryan Reynolds – who portrayed Deadpool in the video below of test CGI footage that blew people’s minds a little while back – is currently uncertain, but I’d put a lot of money on the answer being “yes, yes he will be Deadpool.” After all, why would he portray the character in that test footage and then back out when the movie is actually happening? Plus, this has a high likelihood of being a hit, and Reynolds certainly could use one of those.
I’d be curious to know if that test footage positively impacted the likelihood of this release (people did love it), but in reality, it wasn’t a question of if this would happen, but when. And we have that for sure, if not an answer as to the “who” that will be involved on the project.
Meanwhile, “The Fantastic Four”, Josh Trank’s much debated reboot of the classic Marvel series, has been pushed back from June 19, 2015 to August 7th of the same year. In years past, many would openly wonder if that means ill tidings for the quality of that film, but in 2014 when the top movie of the year is one that was released in August and it also happened to be a comic movie, who the hell knows. Maybe August is the new May?
Lots of Fox movie news, and we’ll assuredly be getting more as the “Deadpool” film starts coming together.
