A Gambit Movie Starring Channing Tatum Could Be A Thing You See In a Cinema

In addition to all that X-Men: Days of Future Past stuff that Empire is getting you all hyped up on, apparently the issue delves into another subject of some note: that a Channing Tatum Gambit film is something that is apparently in the works.

As revealed by Empire themselves (as sort of like a, “Hey, look at this other thing we also did, guys!” post in case you just looked at the covers and left), producer Lauren Shuler Donner has put the wheels in motion for Tatum to star in a film as his apparent favorite character, Gambit. Apparently unhappy with Taylor Kitsch’s performance as the fan favorite character (described by Empire in their own article as “mangled by a throwaway role” in what is probably the most professional description ever), Donner wants Gambit to have his own film as a thief in New Orleans. All that is needed is the approval by Fox and boom, the irresistible sweetheart Channing Tatum (Donner’s description) will appear on the big screen with hopefully a thick accent and glowing purple eyes.

I like Channing Tatum. It’s an unpopular opinion to have generally speaking, but Tatum is great about making fun of himself, particularly in films like 21 Jumpstreet or This is the End. I think casting Tatum in a Gambit film makes about as much sense as casting Ryan Reynolds in a Green Lantern film, which is to say that it seems like a neat idea in prospect but is probably maybe not the best idea in execution.

But, hey, I’d still pay to see it. How can anyone resist Channing Tatum? You can’t. You literally can not do it. He has mind control powers.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
