A New Captain America Contender

And this will either thrill you or upset you. I don’t think there is any in between here.

Along with Chris Evans, Garrett Hedlund and Wilson Bethel, you can now consider Ryan Phillippe a potential Steve Rogers. According to an exclusive at SplashPage conducted at SXSW. Splashpage was not the first group to report this, but it’s MTV that sat down and talked with him. “[I] actually am going in to meet on ‘Captain America,’ which is kind of cool,” Phillippe told MTV. You might also remember that Phillippe is playing a soldier right now in the Magruber movie. Not exactly the same thing, but noteworthy in that obviously he had to bulk up a bit.

I don’t really see Phillippe as Cap, but that’s because I’d still prefer a no name actor, or at least a smaller name than him. Phillippe isn’t a horrific choice, but he’s not one that I can personally see pulling off the road with as much charisma and star power like RDJ, Edward Norton, and Chris Hemsworth in their respective roles, and Jeremy Renner possibly as Hawkeye. With names as talented as that already being thrown around for the Avengers team movie, I can’t see Phillippe as someone in the ranks of those actors.

Leave your thoughts and comments. How do you like Phillippe as Cap? Especially with Hugo Weaving possibly as the Red Skull?

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
