A New Generation Of Hope

Man, I love Marvel teasers! They release so many but they’re always so fun to talk about. Today we have TWO new teasers, both angled at the future of Matt Fraction’s Uncanny X-Men. The new teasers both depict female (assumed) mutants, both of whom are unfamiliar to us. However, it’s pretty easy to meditate on the words given to us. Considering since House of M through Messiah CompleX up to Second Coming the underlying plot of the X books has been the lack of mutants, with Hope being the first since M-Day, it’s easy to assume that the word Hope is supposed to act as a double entendre to both the literal definition and the character while the word Generation is in reference to Hope’s birth post M-Day.

The subsequent arc to Second Coming is entitled “Five Lights,” and the solicit for it reads: “After the events of SECOND COMING, the X-Men’s world has changed. We can’t tell you much without spoiling the crossover, but here are some words to whet your appetite: Hope, Emma, Namor, Sebastian Shaw. Classic X-Men artist Whilce Portacio is back again for this story-arc of epic proportions!”

So there you have it – some X-teasers do dwell on during your Friday afternoon. We”ll see what is in store for us at the end of July.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
