A Third Ending to X-Men Origins: Wolverine?

Ok, so I just did my X-Men Origins: Wolverine review in which I talked greatly about Weapon XI/Deadpool and why I thought the combination of the characters was a good idea. I discussed why people need to stop complaining about the character and be happy with the concessions that the film makers made in order to create the character. However, while searching around the internet reading about the Wolverine secret endings, I read a report that there are not two endings but three endings, and the third ending will make Weapon XI/Deadpool commentators happy.

This is a huge spoiler, obviously, so if you don’t want to know what happens in the third secret ending, do NOT read ahead.

Now, for the most part, everyone involved in the film has said there are “multiple” endings. A direct number has never been given, but as reports come in, for the most part it’s two. The first secret ending, which I believe most people got, shows us Weapon XI’s arm in the rubble of the reactor, retracting it’s blade and searching for it’s head. When it finally finds it, we see that the mouth has been cut open, and the head looks at the audience and says, “Shhh.” This was a scene that, while ultimately disappointing, was very true to the character of Deadpool, who frequently makes jokes and breaks the fourth wall. The second secret ending featured Wolverine in Japan, drinking in a bar. This ending was to be a segue into a second film in the Wolverine franchise that would take place in Japan.

I am now, however, reading a “report” of a third ending that is largely a rumor (and again this is a huge spoiler) and is similar to the Weapon XI one, except… are you ready for it? Brace yourself: right before Weapon XI can take his head back, a foot steps on it and picks the head up. The camera turns around and it reveals Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, who looks at the head and says, “What the hell are you supposed to be?”

So there you have it, folks. This is not 100% confirmed by any source that I can find aside from Wikipedia (and we all know how reliable that is), but it is an interesting proposition. Does it exist? I would like to assume so. When making the movie, everyone claimed that part of the reshoots featured more Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson/Deadpool, so it is possible that they re-shot an ending for us with more Ryan Reynolds (and if the movie needed anything added to it, it was definitely more Ryan Reynolds). I would love to believe this real. Until I see it or read a confirmed report of it, however, I will simply acknowledge this as a dream ending. I would love to know where this originated from, too.

I will be scouring the internet all day to find some evidence of this, rest assured, and as soon as I do I will post an update. Until then, however, keep up hope that the rumor is true, because as much as I am against a Deadpool Hollywood film, I would love to see more Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson. He has been attached to the character since 2003 when he and David S. Goyer first tried to bring the character to life, so please, bring on more. What I think would be best, however, is if they gave Deadpool his own animated film and let Reynolds do the voice and be as involved in the production as he likes. This would be the only way to get a true Deadpool film, even though I have no idea what the plot would be and can’t see it happening at all. But that’s just me.

Edit:

Here are some more reports of the mythical Ryan Reynolds/Wade Wilson ending. The information about the third ending was taken off of Wikipedia, but it’s popping up around the web more now. The more I see pop up about it, the more I suppose I’ll believe it… but we’ll see:

As further reading, here’s a short interview with Reynolds in which he explains the aforementioned reshoots as well as acknowledges that this Deadpool is not the comic Deadpool:

I play Wade Wilson, and I play Deadpool, but the character I play as Deadpool–Fox may differ from me–but I personally don’t consider him to be Deadpool. I consider him to be the thing that Deadpool came from. It doesn’t carry on past that. It’s called Wolverine.

In even further reading, Ryan speaks more about the deviation:

They deviated [from Deadpool’s origins] in a movie like Wolverine because the movie is called Wolverine and they have to make concessions and adjustments – and I totally understand that. But if I were going to do a Deadpool movie, I would want to be pretty strict about keeping it real.
