A Wave Blue World have announced a new original graphic novel, “Averee,” by writers Stephanie Phillips and Dave Johnson, artist Marika Cresta, colorist Andrew Dalhouse, and letterer Saida Temofonte.

“Averee” will follow the titular character as she navigates a world that is dictated by Ranked, an app that sees and knows all, and awards points to users for socially acceptable behaviour, taking them away for any actions that go against social conventions. Overnight, Averee’s Ranked score plummets and causes a host of problems throughout her life, leading her to join forces with her bottom-ranked best friend, Zoe, and her crush, Luke, to stage a raid on Ranked’s HQ to set things right.

The graphic novel will be the first in A Wave New World’s YA line, with a second to be announced shortly. Earlier this week, the publisher announced “Embodied: An Intersectional Feminist Poetry Anthology,” which will see contemporary poets teamed with cis female, trans, and non-binary artists comic artists to explore the themes of gender, identity, and the body.

“Averee” will be released in comic shops and on digital platforms on April 7, 2021, with a bookshop release scheduled on April 20, 2021. You can take a look at “Averee” preview pages over at Newsarama.
