Good news, readers: you’re going to get another whole season of us complaining about TV shows!

As announced on Marvel.com, ABC has officially both renewed the Agents of SHIELD show and picked up Agent Carter, the Hayley Atwell-starring spy show, for a full series. While the news of Agents of SHIELD is probably hit or miss for most of you (given the overall shaky quality of the series up until its finale), Agent Carter already has massive hype behind it thanks to the incredible short attached to the Iron Man 3 DVD.

Not for nothing, but if we can break objectivity for a second here, the Agent Carter short was easily the best one so far. With the involvement of Hayley Atwell, the assumed running storyline about Carter running an earlier incarnation of SHIELD, clashing with Zodiac and mayyyyybe even getting appearances from Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark and (hopefully) more Neal McDonough as Dum Dum Dugan… well. This show has star power out the wazoo. And they assumedly learned all their lessons from the failures of SHIELD, so the future is nothing but optimism and sunshine!

The second season of SHIELD will begin airing in fall 2014, and Agent Carter’s debut is uncertain — but highly anticipated.

(Additionally of note: this means that there will now be 8 comic book television programs airing on television soon with these two, The Walking Dead, Arrow, Gotham, The Flash, Constantine and iZOMBIE, as well as the development of Hourman, DMZ, and Preacher. It’s a veritably comic book TV takeover, and that is just plain crazy.)

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
