Publishing program Abrams ComicArts has announced a new line of books called Megascope. Curated by critically-acclaimed illustrator John Jennings, Megascope will be dedicated to producing work by and for people of color. Jennings is known for his work illustrating “Kindred: A Graphic Novel Adaptation” for Abrams ComicArts last year.

Charles Kochman, the editorial director for Abrams ComicArts, said, “Besides being an amazing artist and a committed creator, John is fully immersed in the comics community and the world of academia. Through our conversations, it became clear that what has been missing was proper, consistent representation of comics created for, by, and about people of color in the mainstream. To address this, there is no one more qualified than John Jennings, and we are excited to work with him to shepherd these stories into existence. The formation of Megascope is just the start of this necessary dialogue.”

According to the Abrams press release, Megascope will publish a variety of graphic novels and comic books, both fiction and non-fiction, that cover several different genres, as well as stories centered around the issue of social justice. Jennings has also created an advisory board made up of well-known comic book experts and scholars in order to help cultivate and create new projects.
