Appearing on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Ben Affleck finally responded to the litany of criticisms that have been thrown at him for being Warner Bros. choice for the role of Batman. Remarking that he’s a huge fan of Snyder’s direction and ideas, Affleck relays a slightly amusing anecdote that Warner Bros. actually warned him to stay off the internet for a week or so — even going so far as to showing him a collection of responses that previous casting choices have received before their movies came out.

While Affleck maintains that we should simply wait to see what he does before casting judgement, when asked about dealing with the reactions his response is pretty funny:

“Well, if I can handle an Emmy snub… I can handle shit, I’m very tough.”

Watch below, starting at about 1:45.

Around these parts we’d still generally maintain that Affleck is not only not right for Batman but Batman is not right for Ben Affleck, because Affleck is at a high point in his career and doing Batman — outside of living every child fantasy that exists, I guess — just seems like a poor decision for what has been a career redeemed. I mean, who would think that the guy who starred in Reindeer Games and Gigli would win an Academy Award, right?

But hey, if they asked you to play Batman, you’d probably say yes too. Internet be damned. You can handle shit.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
