After ‘Endgame’, Gotham Prepares To Meet The All-New Batman

‘Dem Snyder and Capullo boys are at it again. After generating controversy with the events of ‘Endgame’, they’re poised to send Gotham another topsy turvy. As announced today in interviews with Newsarama and CBR, Batman will be replaced by someone new, someone with a set of armor which looks shockingly similar to Arkham Knight’s. #Synergy?

There’s no word on who the All-New Batman is because that would, uh, ruin the point of telling this story in the first place, but Snyder promises that this might be his most far-out story yet. To directly quote Snyder in his interview at CBR: “I’m not being hyperbolic: You’ll see it, and you’ll be like, ‘I can’t believe they’re doing that.'”

I thought the same thing when reading the ending to “The Wake”.

In all seriousness though, Snyder and Capullo have been crushing it on “Batman” for a while now and I’d like to see what their idea of “bold and weird” is after everything surrounding Joker in ‘Endgame’. I’m often pretty skeptical with changes like this, especially with how “Knightfall” ANB is with the Bat-Armor and everything, but Snyder and Capullo have always had a strong grip on what makes Gotham work. That said, if the All-New Batman is straight up just Jean-Paul Valley in the awful Quesada armor I will buy every copy available.

As per usual, this Snyder/Capullo story will spill over into the other Bat-Books, with the All-New Batman hunting down Batgirl in her title. Some characters from other books like “We Are Robin” and “Batgirl” will also find a place in this storyline, so it’s good to see the “Batman” title integrated with the rest of the line after its isolation away from the other books after ‘Death of the Family’.

So since we’re nearing the end of ‘Endgame’, let’s discuss who the All-New Batman could possibly be. Could Joker usurp the role of Batman away from Bruce Wayne? Could Harper or Cullen finally step up and take up the role of the Bat? Is an artificially aged Bruce Wayne going to be replaced by Sam Wilson? We’ll find out when “Batman” #41 hits shelves this June.
