AfterShock Comics have announced a new title for July, “Clankillers,” written by playwright Sean Lewis (AfterShock’s “Betrothed,” Image’s “Coyotes” and “Saints”) and penciled by Antonio Fuso (“G.I. Joe: Cobra,” “James Bond: The Body”). The comic is set in ancient Ireland, and follows the princess Finola and her friend Cillian, who decide that her father, the king, is stupid, her older sisters are stupid, and the clans are stupid… so it’s best to kill them all. Here’s the full press release containing the solicit for the first issue, key comments from Lewis and Fuso, as well as (some NSFW) artwork:

The kick-off of a NEW SERIES!

Like the demented stepchild of Game of Thrones, Braveheart and Mark Millar’s “Kick Ass,” Sean Lewis (BETROTHED, “The Few,” “Coyotes”) brings readers into an ancient Ireland filled with clans, mystics, warriors and monsters of mythic proportion!

Finola has a problem—her father is losing his mind. All the old king cares about is power… and Finola thinks power is stupid. Finola thinks her vicious older sisters are stupid. Finola thinks the royal court is stupid, and above all she thinks the clans across the country are stupid. So she makes a plan with her good friend Cillian: Let’s kill all the clans. And then, we go for dad.

Filled with countless twist and turns, CLANKILLERS promises to be a wild ride! From writer Sean Lewis (BETROTHED, “The Few”) and artist Antonio Fuso (“James Bond,” “G.I. Joe”) comes a revenge thriller that HAD to be told at AfterShock!

SEAN LEWIS ON WHAT THE BOOK IS ABOUT AND WHY READERS SHOULD BE EXCITED FOR IT:

“I’m first generation Irish. So, I grew up with all of my Grandpa’s books of Irish mysticism and myths in my house. I was always obsessed with stories like the Dullahan (like the headless horseman) and the Deargs (who are basically vampires) and how the country was broken down into clans fighting and killing each other. So I wanted to make a story about that. Many people don’t realize King Lear is based on an Irish king. So I started thinking what if Shakespeare’s CORDELIA was like Hit Girl. Just tired of the clans destroying her country and the influence they have eon her family. What if her response was- kill the clans. All of them. To try and get the country back to being sane. Basically, that is the story- our main character FINOLA is the daughter of the most ruthless King in Ireland. He murders all the other clans to keep him safe but his madness and rage is directed at his own blood. Finola thinks it’s all bullshit, so with her friend Cillian she sets out to bring it all down. Father and all.”

SEAN LEWIS ON WHY HE WANTED TO TELL THIS STORY WITH AFTERSHOCK AND HIS FAVORITE THING ABOUT WORKING WITH THEM:

“They found me Antonio, whose work was amazing. They’ve been a good collaborator allowing me enough room to tell stories in a way that excites me and allows me to do something I personally haven’t done before while still giving advice and oversight to make the books as good for the AfterShock line as possible.”

ANTONIO FUSO ON WHAT CLANKILLERS IS ABOUT AND WHY READERS SHOULD ADD IT TO THEIR PULL LIST:

“CLANKILLERS is Games of Thrones meets The Boondock Saints. Readers will find dark castles, ghosts, sorcerers, knights and two teenagers with tongues as sharp as razorblades who want to destroy everything. So we can say there is also a Sex Pistols after-taste in it.”

ANTONIO FUSO ON HIS EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH THE TEAM AT AFTERSHOCK:

“Great! Absolutely great! They gave me all the freedom an artist could desire so I’m having great time inventing extreme layouts and character designs. And they are also very kind and full of contagious enthusiasm. I feel like I’m right at home.”

“Clankillers” #1 is out July 18.
