AfterShock Comics have announced “Lycan,” a six-issue horror series created by actor Thomas Jane (The Punisher, The Expanse) and screenwriter David James Kelly (Logan), with writer Mike Carey (“Lucifer”). An artist is not attached at this time, although Liam Sharp (“The Green Lantern”) did create artwork for the book “years ago,” which can be seen at The Hollywood Reporter.

Due out in the first half of 2022, the comic takes place in 1777, and follows a group of international big game hunters who are shipwrecked on a small British island after returning from Africa. In exchange for his aid, the men are tasked by Lord Ludgate, the ruler of the island, to hunt down and kill a beast that has been eating his subjects.

Jane said in the press release, “I am beyond excited to be partnering with AfterShock Comics to develop the universe of ‘Lycan.’ It’s a story I’ve been wanting to tell for a long time and I’m very lucky to have a great team of creators with David and Mike to bring it to life through the upcoming comic book series.”

Joe Pruett, Publisher and CCO of AfterShock Comics, said “Thomas and I have talked about working together for quite a while now, so when the chance came to merge his love and passion for the comic book medium with AfterShock’s own, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. With our proven track record of launching successful, creator-owned titles, and the talent Thomas brings to the creation of a book the opportunities for this book and our relationship are limitless.”

This isn’t Jane’s first foray into comics: as the founder and co-owner of RAW Studios, he created — with Steve Niles, Tim Bradstreet, and Lewis LaRosa — the 2005 sci-fi horror series “Bad Planet,” and 2007’s “Alien Pig Farm 3000.” The new series is being developed by Jane with producer Courtney Lauren Penn (Altitude) at their company Renegade Entertainment. It also marks the return of Carey to comics, who in recent years had prioritized prose novels like The Girl with All the Gifts.

It was stated the “initial six installments of the ‘Lycan’ comic series will debut in the first half of 2022,” implying a January debut.
