Agents of SHIELD Changes Time Slots, Agent Carter to Air During Mid-Season Break

Alright, now that we’re done talking about last night’s SHIELD finale, lets get an update at what’s ahead.

Via an announcement made on Marvel.comAgents of SHIELD will move to 9 PM when it returns in the fall (while the Goldbergs, arguably the best part of ABC’s Tuesday night, hops over to Wednesdays after Modern Family — just in case you are wondering because I certainly was). The second season will continue the current trend of TV and take a break midway through, and during that mid-season break, Agent Carter will air.

In further details, while this does not appear in Marvel’s announcement, Screen Rant reports that Agent Carter could be 13 or less episodes, aiming to be a mini-series that focuses on one year of Hayley Atwell’s adventures. If Agent Carter will be occupying the 9 PM slot on Tuesdays while SHIELD is off the air, a mini-series does make a lot of sense, and would probably be a good way to keep this show much more focused.

(It probably stands worth noting at this point that, generally speaking, it sounds like American television is trying to ape the much more successful format of BBC programs, in which shorter seasons offer much more focused and precise storytelling. Or at least a toe dip in the water.)

Agents of SHIELD returns in the fall, and Agent Carter will air sometime in late November or December, depending on when the show takes its break. We’ll return our coverage of the Marvel Cinematic Universe right around the same time, I’d imagine.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
