Every once in a while something truly amazing pops up on Tumblr that will be received with huge and mixed fanfare all sneaky like, and tonight, upcoming “Loki: Agent of Asgard” writer Al Ewing dropped a bomb: according to him, Loki is bi and will be both male and female at different times in the series. Precisely, he was asked (and then responded with):
lady-loki-odinson asked: Hello Mr Ewing we will see lokis dad Odin your comic ?Do you think COMIC Loki is Bisexual ? Loki is the Norse IS Bisexual . [Loki is a bisexual, shape-shifting norse God].
I think Odin will be talked about but not seen.
Yes, Loki is bi and I’ll be touching on that. He’ll shift between genders occasionally as well.
While, as the person who asked the question pointed out, Loki of myth is someone of a very flexible nature, it’s never been something fully confronted previously. Now, Ewing will confront this head on, and it sounds like it may be something that comes up often. Sure to be controversial, I say bravo to him. It’s a brave choice to make, even with the historical/mythological precedent, and I have faith that he’ll do the story justice and won’t make it something that is just a controversy generator. I am sure we’ll hear more on this before the book is released. A lot more.
