Remember that time that Ales Kot wrote “Suicide Squad” for three issues? Yeah… that was awesome…

Well, good news, everyone: lightning may strike twice in a fashion. After writing one clandestine team for DC, it appears that the folks at Marvel have agreed that Kot should write more company-owned clandestine teams. As such, the Marvel December solicits have revealed that Ales Kot will be joining Nick Spencer as co-writer of “Secret Avengers” for the upcoming ‘How to Maim a Mockingbird’ story arc, illustrated by Butch Guice.

Secret Avengers #12 & 13
NICK SPENCER & ALES KOT (W) • BUTCH GUICE (A/C)
#12 – HOW TO MAIM A MOCKINGBIRD, Part One
• Can Mockingbird escape before the High Council of A.I.M. discovers her true identity?
• Maria Hill gets a mind-bending offer from a rogue A.I.M. operative. And you probably know him. It’s REDACTED.
• Hawkeye, Black Widow and Fury plumb the “depths” of A.I.M.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99
#13 – HOW TO MAIM A MOCKINGBIRD, Part Two
• Secret Avengers are taken down by A.I.M.?!
• Taskmaster and Mockingbird go full stealth mode as the entire A.I.M. island searches for them.
• A.I.M.’s secrets are spilled. Forson’s wild card is revealed. A team member down.
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$3.99

“Secret Avengers” has been quietly one of Marvel’s most intriguing books, completely changing the direction of the series from the current iteration and make it more of a SHIELD team-up book with more recognizable names. Spencer has been doing a killer job with the cloak-and-dagger operations of the team so far, so it’ll be interesting to see what Kot can bring to the table — especially considering his work in “Zero” (which, I know hasn’t come out yet, and this isn’t an official advance review or anything, but … you’re going to love it).

Look for the issues in December, and congrats to Kot on the gig.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
