This is pretty cool. Ever wanted an easy way to put your comics on Amazon’s Kindle devices? Because Amazon has totally got you covered with their new Kindle Comic Creator. The Comic Creator is a free application for desktops that allows users to upload their own comics onto Kindle without the need to understand the coding of the device. Much like with comiXology’s Sumbit feature, it’s another way for comic creators to get their books out there.
Once the comics are uploaded, the user can set the list price, but there’s a little bit of a catch. There will be two royalty schemes for users uploading their books: one is a 35% of the list price for every book sold and the other is 70% of the actual sale price for every book sold. The catch is that if you choose the 70% royalty then Amazon can change the list price to match a competitive price or their own price for a print version.
So there’s good and bad to it, much like with comiXology Submit, but the more options small print comic creators have for getting their comics out there, the better. And hopefully between this and Submit we’ll see some competition arise in the market leading to better options for creators. If you’d like to check out the Comic Creator, head here
